STARLUX Airlines has doubled its firm Airbus A350F freighter order to 10 aircraft, adding five in January 2025 to the five it ordered in February 2024. The airline says cargo is set to become a key part of its business and points to Taiwan’s location as a strategic advantage. The available announcements do not confirm when STARLUX Cargo will begin operations or when the first A350F will be delivered.
How STARLUX’s A350F order grew
In February 2024, STARLUX placed a firm order for five A350F freighters and three A330neo aircraft, with an option for five additional A350Fs. Airbus said the freighters would be operated by STARLUX Cargo. In January 2025, Airbus announced that STARLUX had ordered five more A350Fs, bringing the firm total to 10.
The additional order turned the five-aircraft commitment into a larger planned freighter fleet. Airbus said the aircraft would serve some of the world’s busiest freight routes.
Why STARLUX says it is expanding into cargo
In Airbus’s January 2025 announcement, STARLUX CEO Glenn Chai said the cargo market was “set to become a key element” of the airline’s business model and cited Taiwan’s geographic location as an advantage. That is the airline’s stated strategic rationale; it is not independent evidence of future cargo-market growth.

Chai had also described STARLUX as having nurtured the cargo market since the airline’s inception when discussing the initial order in 2024. The announcements establish the airline’s intent to build cargo into its business, but do not quantify expected cargo revenue or describe a launch timetable.
What the A350F is specified to do
Airbus’s February 2024 announcement gives the A350F a maximum payload of up to 111 tonnes and a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 kilometres). Airbus identifies Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines as the powerplant. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independently verified performance figures for STARLUX operations.

Airbus also said the A350F would use up to 40% less fuel and produce up to 40% lower carbon emissions than the older 747F, and would be at least 20% more efficient than its competitor. Those are Airbus comparisons; the announcement does not establish observed results for STARLUX or provide an independent, like-for-like evaluation. Airbus further said the aircraft would meet ICAO’s enhanced CO₂ standards taking effect in 2027.
Rolls-Royce’s February 2024 announcement covered Trent 7000 and Trent XWB-97 engines for the three A330neo and five A350F aircraft in STARLUX’s original order. It does not establish which engines are associated with the five A350Fs added in 2025.

When will STARLUX Cargo launch and receive its first A350F?
The sources available do not confirm a current cargo-service launch date or a current first-delivery schedule. STARLUX’s 2023 annual report, published in 2024, projected that deliveries of the initial five A350Fs would start in 2027. That is a historical forecast, not confirmation of the present schedule.
For context, Airbus’s January 2026 A350F factsheet listed STARLUX with 10 aircraft and showed 81 A350F orders from 11 customers in its snapshot. That dated total should not be read as an October 2026 order-book tally.
