Starlink’s reported $349 promotion waived the Standard Kit charge—it did not provide $349 of free internet service. Customers who saw the offer could receive the kit for $0 by accepting a 12-month residential-service commitment, while monthly service charges, taxes, shipping and possible fees still applied.
The offer was reported on April 29, 2025, and Starlink’s promotional terms can change. As of September 2026, the only reliable way to determine whether it remains available is to enter your exact service address at Starlink’s official order page.

Is Starlink’s $349 deal still available?
Do not assume the 2025 promotion is still active. The original coverage described the offer as available in select U.S. markets, and Starlink’s own terms say promotional eligibility, pricing and duration can depend on the service address and the specific offer.
Starlink does not establish eligibility simply by state. Two addresses in the same state may receive different plans, prices or promotions. A state map from 2025 is therefore historical context, not a current eligibility list.

If checkout does not explicitly show a $0 Standard Kit or equivalent hardware waiver tied to a commitment, do not treat the promotion as available to you.
What does the $349 saving actually cover?
| Item | What the promotion means |
|---|---|
| Standard Kit | Reported U.S. price: $349 under the original promotion |
| Promotional equipment price | $0 when the qualifying offer and commitment apply |
| Internet service | Still billed monthly; it is not free |
The accurate description is: the deal saves you the $349 equipment charge—not $349 on your internet bill. You still pay for the residential service plan for the duration of the commitment.
The Standard Kit is the satellite hardware needed for the service. Mounts, cable-routing equipment, networking gear, installation and other accessories may cost extra.

Which states qualify?
The original report said the deal was available in roughly half of U.S. states and illustrated availability with a map. However, the accessible reporting does not provide a dependable text list that should be republished as a current list. Starlink describes these promotions as available in “select areas,” and its checkout process determines whether an address qualifies.
That distinction matters. A highlighted state may contain only some eligible service areas, and service availability does not necessarily mean promotional eligibility. The address result shown by Starlink is the final authority.
What will you pay in the first year?
Use the price shown for your address, rather than an old headline price. The basic calculation is:
Total first-year cost = 12 monthly service charges + shipping + taxes + required fees + accessories − displayed credits.
The following examples use prices reported on April 29, 2025. They are illustrations, not current September 2026 quotes:

- $80 monthly plan: $80 × 12 = $960 in service charges, plus the other applicable costs; the kit would be $0 under the promotion.
- $120 monthly plan: $120 × 12 = $1,440 in service charges, plus the other applicable costs; the kit would be $0 under the promotion.
Starlink’s critical information summary says pricing varies with the service address and selected equipment. The checkout total may also include:
- Shipping and handling
- Taxes
- Demand, congestion or regional charges
- Mounting hardware and other accessories
- Professional installation
- Replacement or non-return charges
One 2025 report mentioned a possible $100 demand fee in some markets. Treat that as an offer-specific historical warning, not a universal current charge.
The 12-month commitment is the real catch
This is not an ordinary month-to-month Starlink arrangement if you accept the free-kit offer. Starlink’s U.S. terms say customers accepting an applicable promotion agree to continuously subscribe for the stated commitment period. Depending on the order, the commitment may be 12 or 24 months; your checkout terms control.

Actions that may trigger a change fee
During the commitment period, Starlink’s U.S. terms identify several events that can result in a change fee or loss of promotional pricing:
- Cancelling service
- Changing to another service plan
- Changing the service address
- Transferring the service or kit
- Failing to pay required service fees
- Having service terminated for breach
The U.S. terms shown in the available documentation specify a $249 or $325 change fee depending on the applicable arrangement, and the amount may be reduced over time. Do not rely on either figure until you see the amount attached to your own offer.
Moving is an important edge case. Even if you remain a Starlink customer, changing the service address may count as a commitment change.
How the 30-day trial affects your risk
The reported promotion included a 30-day full-refund period, and Starlink’s terms provide for a trial-period return when the customer follows the required process. Properly exercising the applicable return right generally avoids the commitment change fee.

- Gen 3 Satellite Dish: Third-generation antenna delivers a stronger, more stable signal and faster performance.
- Wi-Fi 6 Router: Modern router technology supports faster speeds, increased device capacity, and better efficiency.
- Extra 150FT Cable Included: Extended reach for more flexible installation in large spaces or hard-to-access locations.
- High-Speed, Low-Latency Internet: Stream HD content, video conference, or work remotely with confidence.
- Ideal for Rural and Remote Areas: Perfect for homes, cabins, RVs, boats, and off-grid setups where wired internet isn’t available.
That does not mean the trial is automatically risk-free. You must follow Starlink’s return instructions and return the equipment within the applicable deadline and condition requirements. Keeping the kit after cancelling, returning it late or failing to follow the process may result in equipment or other charges.
During the trial, test:
- Whether the dish has a clear view of the sky
- Obstructions from trees, buildings or terrain
- Performance during morning, evening and other busy periods
- Video calls and other latency-sensitive uses
- Wi-Fi coverage throughout the home
- Compatibility with your existing router or mesh system
- Whether the proposed mounting location is practical and safe
Residential versus Residential Lite
Do not assume that qualifying for the kit promotion means you will receive the cheapest residential tier. The original coverage reported examples of Residential Lite at $80 per month and standard Residential at $120, but it also noted that availability varied by market. Some locations could receive the free-kit offer without offering Residential Lite.
Check the exact plan name, monthly price and service characteristics shown for your address. Neither the 2025 prices nor the availability of Residential Lite should be treated as current nationwide facts.

| Potentially good fit | Potentially poor fit |
|---|---|
| You expect to stay at the same address for at least 12 months. | You may move during the commitment. |
| You need a new rural broadband option and have confirmed the plan meets your needs. | You use a cabin or vacation property seasonally. |
| You prefer a lower upfront bill over flexibility. | You may need to pause, cancel or change plans. |
| You have a suitable installation site with clear sky visibility. | You need mobile, RV or boating service rather than fixed residential service. |
| You understand the exact change fee and return terms. | You can afford the kit and value month-to-month freedom more than the upfront saving. |
Compare the saving with the value of flexibility
Buying the kit outright costs more initially, but it may be financially preferable if there is a meaningful chance you will cancel, move, transfer the equipment or change plans before the commitment ends. The $349 equipment waiver is not automatically a $349 profit: an early change fee, lost promotional pricing, or unused service can outweigh the upfront saving.
Before committing, compare:
- The displayed kit price with and without the promotion
- Your expected 12-month service cost
- The exact change fee
- Any shipping, taxes, demand fees and installation costs
- The cost of alternatives available at your address
- The financial value of being able to cancel or move without a commitment
Alternatives if the commitment is a bad fit
Check month-to-month Starlink pricing if flexibility is more important than the equipment waiver. Where coverage is strong, fixed wireless or cellular home internet may avoid satellite installation and sky-obstruction problems. Address-specific offers are available from T-Mobile Home Internet, Verizon 5G Home Internet and AT&T Internet Air.
If Starlink is unavailable or unsuitable, Hughesnet and Viasat may also be worth comparing. Review current data policies, latency, equipment charges, contract terms and promotional expiration dates for your address before choosing.
Bottom line
Take the Starlink offer only if your checkout page confirms the $0 kit, the monthly bill fits your budget, your installation site works and you are comfortable staying at the same service address for the full commitment. The promotion can reduce your upfront cost, but it is not free internet and it is not a nationwide, guaranteed $349 subscription discount.
