Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a household choosing satellite internet, Starlink is the clearest currently documented residential option among these three. OneWeb is described in available Eutelsat material as a partner-distributed service for businesses and governments, while Amazon Leo has announced enterprise preview access and a staged rollout—not a universal household offer. Check availability and full terms for your exact address before comparing speeds or budgeting for equipment.
How the three services differ
The names may appear in the same satellite-internet comparison, but they do not represent equivalent retail plans. Starlink publishes residential plans. The available OneWeb material describes a business-to-business and business-to-government network distributed through partners. Amazon Leo’s public announcements describe enterprise-oriented terminals, preview access, and a planned rollout.
| Provider | What the available material establishes | What to verify before budgeting |
|---|---|---|
| Starlink | Residential plans and address-based availability. See Starlink’s plan overview. | Eligibility, local plan terms, equipment cost, and installation at your address. |
| OneWeb | Eutelsat’s investor material positions OneWeb as a partner-mediated network for business, government, and community needs. The source is dated and does not establish current local offers. See Eutelsat’s OneWeb investor material. | Whether a local distributor serves your use case, and its current price, terminal, contract, and service terms. |
| Amazon Leo | Amazon announced an enterprise preview in November 2025 and a planned, staged 2026 rollout. Those announcements do not establish household availability at a particular address. See the terminal and preview announcement and rollout announcement. | Whether service is being offered in your country and to your customer type, plus local pricing, equipment, and contract terms. |
A network’s international footprint does not mean every home can order service. Starlink directs customers to check by address, and says availability and plan details vary by region. Start with its availability map; for OneWeb and Amazon Leo, confirm a current offer directly with the provider or an authorized local partner.
Which option makes sense for a rural home?
Starlink: the clearest household comparison
Starlink’s residential support material describes unlimited-data residential plans, but says performance and availability vary by region. It lists Residential Max with typical downloads up to 400+ Mbps and uploads of 20–40 Mbps; selected markets also have plans capped at 100 or 200 Mbps. These are provider plan descriptions, not guaranteed speeds for an individual home. Check the residential plan details for current local terms.

OneWeb may be relevant if a distributor offers service to a home or community in your area, but the available corporate material does not establish a general household signup route. Amazon Leo’s published capabilities likewise do not establish a current consumer plan. Until you find a concrete local offer, compare either of those against Starlink only as a potential future or partner-sourced option—not as a confirmed retail alternative.
Compare the full bill, not just a speed headline
The sources cited here do not establish a current, like-for-like price comparison across the three services. Before committing, total the recurring service charge, required hardware, shipping or installation, any contract or financing obligation, and any optional accessories. Also check whether the quoted plan has data or priority rules that matter to your usage. For a rural address, compare those costs with available fixed wireless, cable, fiber, or other local options rather than assuming satellite is automatically the least expensive solution.

Are the published speed claims comparable?
No. The figures use different measures: Starlink publishes plan descriptions and typical-performance guidance, while Amazon lists maximum capabilities for its terminal models. Neither is an independent, controlled head-to-head test, so ranking the networks by these numbers would be misleading.
| Service and figure | What the number means |
|---|---|
| Starlink Residential Max: typical downloads up to 400+ Mbps and uploads of 20–40 Mbps; selected plans capped at 100 or 200 Mbps | Starlink’s support material, accessed October 7, 2026; market-specific terms apply. See plan details. |
| Starlink: typical downloads of 25–220 Mbps, uploads of 5–20 Mbps, and land latency of 25–60 ms | Starlink’s technical specification; page publication date not stated, accessed October 7, 2026. It says actual results vary by location, time, and plan priority and are not guaranteed. See technical specifications. |
| Amazon Leo Nano: up to 100 Mbps down; Pro: up to 400 Mbps down; Ultra: up to 1 Gbps down and 400 Mbps up | Manufacturer-published maximum terminal capabilities in Amazon’s 2025 announcement, not typical service speeds or a guarantee of local availability. See Amazon’s terminal announcement. |
| OneWeb household speed figure | Not stated in the cited Eutelsat investor material; ask the relevant distributor for current service specifications and terms. See Eutelsat’s OneWeb material. |
For a fair decision, request the expected upload and download performance, latency, data or priority policy, and service commitment for the exact plan being offered. Real-world results can depend on location, time, plan priority, and installation conditions; a terminal’s maximum capability does not tell you what a service will deliver at your home.

What equipment and installation should you plan for?
Starlink
Starlink service requires a physical kit with a user terminal, Wi-Fi router, power supply, and mount. Installation needs a clear view of the sky; obstructions can interfere with the connection. Its specifications describe the kit as plug-and-play, but that does not remove the need to assess the mounting location. Check the Starlink specifications and address availability before purchasing hardware. Verify the kit generation and compatibility before buying mounting accessories.
Amazon Leo and OneWeb
Amazon has announced three terminal classes—Nano, Pro, and Ultra—with different published capability ceilings. The announcement does not establish local terminal pricing or a household buying path. For OneWeb, the cited material does not establish current terminal choices or purchasing terms; ask the distributor that would provide service what hardware, installation, and support are included.

What should a business, vessel, or mobile user compare?
Business connectivity is not interchangeable with residential broadband. Before choosing a provider or reseller, ask for written terms covering:
- Coverage for the operating locations and routes, and authorization for fixed or in-motion use.
- Terminal class, antenna and mounting requirements, and integration with existing networks.
- Service-level commitments, support response, data priority, and what happens during congestion or an outage.
- Contract length, total equipment and service costs, and who is responsible for installation and maintenance.
- Whether service is sold directly or through a distributor, and which party handles support and billing.
Amazon announced maritime reseller agreements with ELCOME and MTN on February 10, 2026. That announcement identifies business-to-business distribution examples, not a consumer signup route; local service terms still need confirmation. See the maritime reseller announcement. OneWeb’s partner model also makes the specific distributor’s offer central to any business comparison.

Is Amazon Leo available to order, and what about phone service?
Amazon said it began an enterprise preview in November 2025 and described a wider 2026 rollout as it added satellites, coverage, and capacity. Its rollout announcement said service would begin at northern and southern latitudes and expand gradually toward the Equator. These were rollout plans, not proof that service is offered to a particular household, business, or country. Check for an actual local offer and terms before including Leo in a current purchase budget.
Amazon’s separate announcement about acquiring Globalstar and planned direct-to-device services concerns a future capability. It should not be treated as broadband available now on ordinary smartphones. See the Globalstar announcement.
Quick Recap
A practical decision process
- Check your exact address and use case. Confirm that service is currently offered at the location, for household or business use as applicable—not just that the network has broad coverage.
- Get a complete local quote. Include the service charge, terminal and installation costs, contract obligations, data or priority rules, and support terms.
- Assess the site. For Starlink, check whether you can mount the terminal with a clear view of the sky. For any provider, confirm power, cabling, network integration, and any mobility restrictions.
- Compare equivalent service expectations. Use typical or contractually specified performance, upload, latency, data policy, and support—not a maximum terminal rate against another provider’s typical range.
- Choose based on the cost of the service you can actually buy. If OneWeb or Amazon Leo has no current local offer for your use case, it is not yet a like-for-like budget option.
