Starlink’s Roam page currently shows a $199 Mini Kit offer, subject to address and activation terms. The Costco claim is less certain: Costco carried discounted Starlink hardware in Canada in August 2024, but there is no verified nationwide U.S. Costco promotion at $200 as of August 18, 2026.
The equipment price is only the entry point. Internet service is purchased separately, and reported Roam plans start at $55 per month.

What you are actually buying for about $200
Consumers do not buy Starlink satellites. They buy a ground terminal, commonly called a dish, plus its router, cables and power equipment. The current low-price product is most plausibly the Starlink Mini, a compact terminal designed primarily for Roam service.
Starlink’s official Roam page currently displays a $199 Mini Kit offer with an activation benefit. The exact price, eligibility and benefit can change by service address, account and country, so check the offer shown after entering your address.

What the Mini includes
- Built-in Wi-Fi router
- Approximate dimensions of 11.75 by 10.2 inches
- Weight of about 2.56 pounds
- 50-foot DC power cable and power supply
- Reported download range of roughly 65–260 Mbps under suitable conditions
- Compatibility with Starlink Roam plans
A review reports that a 16-foot USB-C power cable is not included. Third-party bundles can also omit accessories, include used equipment or contain region-specific hardware. Confirm the seller, model number, condition and contents before paying.
For comparison, the larger Starlink Standard is generally intended for a fixed home or cabin. It is a separate product with different installation, Wi-Fi and plan considerations. Starlink’s Residential page shows location-dependent hardware and plan pricing rather than one universal national price.
Starlink Mini versus Standard
| Feature | Starlink Mini | Starlink Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Primary use | Portable Roam connections for RVs, camping, travel and backup use | Generally fixed residential or cabin installation |
| Size and weight | About 11.75 × 10.2 inches; 2.56 pounds | Varies by generation; larger and heavier than Mini |
| Wi-Fi | Built into the terminal | Typically uses a separate router arrangement |
| Plan assumption | Primarily associated with Roam; confirm eligibility at checkout | Residential and other plans may be available by address |
| Portability | Designed for transport and lower-power setups | Better suited to a permanent mount |
| Hardware price | $199 offer reported for new customers; conditions apply | Location-dependent; no universal $200 price established |
| Installation | Clear sky view and suitable power source required | Clear sky view, mounting and home-network setup generally required |
Is the Costco deal real?
Costco has sold discounted Starlink hardware before. On August 28, 2024, MobileSyrup reported approximately C$200 Starlink units at Costco locations in Canada, including Nova Scotia, and suggested availability could vary among warehouses. That report does not establish a current U.S. price, a particular model, or a nationwide promotion.
A May 2026 article repeats the “$200 online and at Costco” wording, but it does not provide a current Costco product page, store inventory evidence, promotion end date or a clear Mini-versus-Standard identification. Treat that claim as unverified rather than as proof of a live U.S. sale.
Warehouse inventory is local and temporary. Online and in-store prices can differ, and a clearance unit may be an older kit. A Costco purchase also does not activate Starlink service. Check Costco’s site and your local warehouse, then compare the exact model and serial-number eligibility with Starlink before buying.
The monthly plan changes the calculation
The $199 figure is hardware only. Reported U.S. Roam pricing as of June 2026 is:
| Roam option | Reported monthly price | Illustrative first-year total with $199 Mini |
|---|---|---|
| 100GB | $55 | $859 ($199 + $55 × 12) |
| 300GB | $80 | $1,159 ($199 + $80 × 12) |
| Unlimited | $175 | $2,299 ($199 + $175 × 12) |
These totals use the reported Mini and Roam prices from SatelliteInternet.com’s June 18, 2026 review. They exclude tax, shipping, mounts, power accessories, installation and any address-specific fees. The 100GB and 300GB options are allowances; after high-speed data is used, service may continue at reduced speeds under the plan terms.

Can you use a $199 Mini at home?
Do not assume that buying a Mini from Costco or another retailer qualifies it for Residential service. The hardware purchase and account activation are separate. Starlink determines available plans, congestion-related charges, rental choices and eligibility after you enter the service address.
The Mini is primarily marketed with Roam. A fixed-home buyer should compare the address-specific Residential offer at Starlink’s Residential page with the cost of Roam. A Standard kit or a regional rental may be more suitable for a permanent installation, while a Mini can be a poor value if it forces a much more expensive mobile plan.
Installation, sky view and power requirements
Check for obstructions first
The terminal needs a broad, unobstructed view of the sky. Trees, roofs, poles and nearby buildings can create interruptions. Use the Starlink app’s obstruction-checking feature at the intended mounting location before drilling, buying a mount or relying on the connection for work.
Plan the power system
For portable USB-C operation, the Mini review specifies a source capable of 100 watts at 20 volts and 5 amps. A low-output phone power bank may not start or sustain the terminal. Reported portable power-bank prices are roughly $60–$200, and a Starlink Mini car adapter has been reported at about $45; verify current prices in Starlink’s store.
Recommended Free Tools
Battery runtime depends on capacity, conversion losses and weather. A power bank that runs a laptop for a day may run the Mini for only a few hours, so campers and RVers should calculate watt-hours rather than relying on a battery’s marketing label.
What performance should you expect?
The reported 65–260 Mbps range is an advertised or reviewed range, not a guarantee. Clear sky visibility, network congestion, weather, location, obstructions and plan type all affect throughput. Peak-hour slowdowns remain possible, and satellite latency is not as consistent as fiber for every workload.
Starlink can be substantially more responsive than legacy geostationary satellite internet, making video calls and ordinary remote work practical in many locations. It is still a weaker fit than fiber for latency-sensitive competitive gaming or any situation where interruptions are unacceptable.

Hidden costs and cancellation terms
- Taxes and shipping: Neither is included in the headline $199 figure.
- Mounting: Permanent roof, pole or vehicle installations require additional hardware and possibly professional labor.
- Portable accessories: Budget for a high-output USB-C cable or power bank, vehicle adapter, carrying case and suitable mount.
- Activation conditions: A $199 price or credit may require new service, a specific plan or continued service for a stated period.
- Separate billing: A retailer purchase does not create an internet subscription; activate through Starlink.
- Rental arrangements: A July 20, 2026 report describes region-specific U.S. rental changes, including low-cost or free rental offers, a reported $349 purchase price and return requirements. Terms can change, so read the checkout agreement for your address.
If you buy the Mini outright, the hardware generally remains yours after cancellation, but stopping service can make it unusable until you reactivate an eligible plan. Installment or promotional arrangements can impose different return or early-cancellation obligations.

Five checks before ordering
- Enter the exact service address on Starlink’s official site and save the plan, hardware price and any activation terms shown.
- Confirm that the listing says Starlink Mini or Standard; do not rely on a headline that says only “Starlink satellite.”
- Verify whether the device supports the Residential or Roam plan you actually need.
- Use the app to check the proposed site for trees, buildings and other obstructions.
- Add 12 months of service, taxes, shipping, power, mounting and accessories before deciding whether the deal beats fiber, cable, 5G or a cellular travel plan.
Who should buy the Mini?
RVers, campers and travelers
The Mini is compelling when you regularly reach places without dependable cellular coverage, can position it under open sky and have enough battery or vehicle power. The 100GB plan may work for light travel; frequent streaming and multiple users can make the 300GB or unlimited options expensive.
Rural households and cabins
Compare the address-specific Residential offer first. A permanently located Standard kit or rental may provide a better network and cost fit than paying Roam rates for a portable device.
Backup-internet users
Starlink can provide geographic diversity when a local cable or fiber line fails, but the annual service cost matters even if the terminal is used only during outages. Check whether your plan can be paused and what reactivation terms apply.
Existing broadband customers
Skip the Mini if reliable fiber, cable or 5G home internet is cheaper and already meets your needs. The $199 hardware discount does not offset a service plan you rarely use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBottom line on the $200 headline
The $199 Starlink Mini is a genuine current price signal, but it is an equipment offer—not a year of internet and not a standard residential dish. Costco has carried discounted kits, including a documented Canadian promotion in 2024, yet a current nationwide U.S. $200 Costco sale is not verified. Buy only after confirming the model, address-level plan, sky view and full first-year cost.
