Star Citizen passed $700 million in crowdfunding in late May 2024. The milestone is now historical: reporting says it crossed $1 billion in May 2026, and a community-maintained tracker showed about $1.048 billion as of September 28, 2026. Those figures describe a public funding counter—not audited spending or money currently available to the company.
When did Star Citizen pass $700 million?
Contemporary reports place the milestone in late May 2024. The FPS Review reported a tracker snapshot of $701,777,380 on May 28, 2024, alongside a historical count of 5,241,343 “Star Citizens.” That count is from the same snapshot, not a current backer total. The FPS Review’s May 28 report.
On May 29, MMORPG.com reported that the total had topped $703 million, citing Cloud Imperium Games’ official funding stats. Its report noted that Invictus Launch Week and an accompanying Free Fly event were underway at the time. MMORPG.com’s May 29 report.
How much has Star Citizen raised since then?

The latest dated total cited here is $1,048,404,763.69, shown by the community-maintained Star Citizen Wiki API as updated September 28, 2026. The API also listed a “Fleet” count of 6,725,305; that label does not establish a number of players or backers. Star Citizen Wiki API.
That September snapshot is not an audited financial statement. RSI’s official funding page was accessible, but its live amount appeared as an extraction error in the page text, so the dated community figure is not a substitute for a verified current official total. RSI funding page.

What does the funding counter actually measure?
Cloud Imperium Games describes Star Citizen as crowd-funded and says that “money pledged goes directly to the game’s development.” That is the developer’s description of its funding model, not an independent audit of the money received or spent. RSI funding page.
A pledge counter does not, by itself, show company revenue under audited accounts, cash on hand, total development costs, net investment, or how much money remains. The public totals cited above do not provide the company accounts needed to calculate those figures. For that reason, the question “How much is left?” cannot be answered from the tracker total alone.

What the milestone does—and does not—tell players
The late-May 2024 figure records the scale of the project’s reported crowdfunding at a particular point in time. The contemporaneous reports connected that moment with Invictus Launch Week and Free Fly, but the milestone alone does not establish why any individual pledged, how much of a short-term increase those events caused, or whether a particular development target will be delivered by a given date.
Cloud Imperium’s official pledge page also cautions: “There may be delays and there may be changes; we recognize that such things are inevitable and would be lying to you if we claimed otherwise.” The statement is signed “Chris Roberts and the Cloud Imperium Team.” RSI funding page.
