The SSC MTS/Havaldar 2024 application window is closed. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) published the notification on 27 June 2024 and later extended the application deadline to 3 August 2024. This guide explains the 2024 process for reference; it is not an opportunity to apply now. For a later recruitment cycle, check the latest notice on SSC’s official website.

What the 2024 notification covered

The notification covered two recruitments: Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff (MTS) and Havaldar. MTS was described as a Pay Level 1, General Central Service Group C post, non-gazetted and non-ministerial, in government ministries, departments, offices and specified public bodies across states and union territories. Havaldar posts were in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), under the Department of Revenue.

Post Tentative vacancies in the initial 2024 notice Recruiting context
MTS 4,887 Government ministries, departments, offices and specified public bodies across states and union territories
Havaldar 3,439 CBIC and CBN, Department of Revenue

SSC identified these vacancy numbers as tentative and said detailed or updated vacancies would be made available separately. They are figures from the initial 2024 notice, not current openings, and the two totals do not mean that every applicant could choose or qualify for either post on the same terms.

Final application and exam dates

SSC amended the original application deadline on 31 July 2024. The final dates were:

  • Application submission: 3 August 2024, by 23:00.
  • Online fee payment: 4 August 2024, by 23:00.
  • Correction window: 16–17 August 2024, through 23:00. The extension notice left this window unchanged.
  • Computer-based examination: October–November 2024 was the schedule announced in the original notice; it was not an individual candidate’s confirmed exam date.

All these dates have passed. The 2024 notice does not establish whether a later SSC recruitment cycle is open.

Who could apply in the 2024 cycle

The stated minimum educational qualification was matriculation (Class 10) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized board, attained by 1 August 2024. Meeting that education requirement alone did not establish eligibility: the notice also set age limits, nationality conditions and category-specific age-relaxation provisions. Applicants needed to check the notice against their circumstances and the post for which they were applying.

Application fee and corrections

The application fee was ₹100, payable online through the methods specified in the notice. Women, SC and ST candidates, eligible ex-servicemen and persons with benchmark disabilities were exempt from the fee. A required fee that was not paid left the application incomplete and liable to rejection.

The correction window allowed up to two corrected submissions: ₹200 for the first correction and ₹500 for the second. These correction charges applied regardless of gender or category.

How the online application worked

The 2024 application involved two stages: One-Time Registration (OTR) on SSC’s new website, followed by the examination application. An OTR made on the old ssc.nic.in website did not work on the new site. SSC’s 2024 notice stated: “Once an OTR has been generated on the new website, it will continue to remain valid for all the examinations to be applied for on the new website.” That statement describes OTR validity on the new site; it does not make the closed 2024 application available again.

  1. Open the new SSC website and complete OTR if needed. Use ssc.gov.in. Have a working mobile number and email address for OTP verification, identity details, and your matriculation board, roll number and passing year ready.
  2. Sign in and open the 2024 examination form. Use the SSC registration number and password, then find the MTS/Havaldar examination in the live exam area and enter the required information. Check names and dates against your matriculation certificate.
  3. Follow the live-photo instructions and provide the signature. The notice said applicants did not need a pre-existing photograph; it instructed them to take a clear, frontal photo against a plain background. Upload a scanned signature in the format specified on the form, and complete education and other applicable details.
  4. Review, submit and pay if required. Check the preview carefully before submission. Pay the fee if it applies to you and retain a copy of the submitted application.

These steps describe the 2024 process only. Anyone applying in a future cycle should use that cycle’s notice and current portal instructions rather than relying on old dates or form requirements.
