What was the last date to apply for SSC MTS/Havaldar 2024?
SSC’s notice, published June 27, 2024, initially set the application deadline for July 31, 2024, at 11 p.m. In an important notice dated July 31, the Commission extended the deadline to August 3, 2024, at 11 p.m. The online fee-payment deadline was extended separately, to August 4, 2024, at 11 p.m. The correction window remained August 16–17, 2024, through 11 p.m. SSC’s 2024 examination notice and July 31 extension notice record the dates.
SSC wrote in its extension notice: “The Commission has decided to extend the closing date and time for receipt of online applications for Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) Examination, 2024, from 31.07.2024 (23.00 hours) to 03.08.2024(23.00 hours).” This is a historical deadline, not an open application opportunity. Why did the headline say 8,326 posts?
That number came from the initial notification, published in June 2024. It listed 4,887 Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff (MTS) vacancies and 3,439 Havaldar vacancies, for an initial total of 8,326. SSC later published a final vacancy document with 8,079 MTS vacancies and the same 3,439 Havaldar vacancies, totaling 11,518. How did MTS and Havaldar posts differ?
Both were Pay Level-1, Group C, non-gazetted, non-ministerial posts, but they were not the same job or recruitment track.
- MTS: Posts in various government ministries, departments, offices, and other bodies. SSC’s final result write-up says selection was based on Session-II performance in the computer-based examination (CBE).
- Havaldar: Posts in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN). In addition to Session-II CBE performance, candidates had to qualify in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST).
SSC’s final result write-up states that minimum qualifying marks in each CBE session were 30% for Unreserved candidates, 25% for Other Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections, and 20% for other categories. These qualifying thresholds do not, on their own, determine selection; the post-specific selection criteria also apply.

The 2024 notice directed candidates to apply online through ssc.gov.in. That was the application route for the 2024 cycle; its application window has ended. Use SSC’s current official notice for the dates and instructions for any later cycle.
