SSC published the notice on 4 March 2024; applications closed at 23:00 on 28 March, and the computer-based exam was scheduled for 9, 10 and 13 May 2024. For a live opportunity, check the SSC website and its current notices.
What the 2024 notice covered
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducted the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) Examination, 2024 as an open competitive examination. The government announcement specified Pay Level 6 and said candidates from across India could apply, subject to the detailed notice’s conditions. The Press Information Bureau’s 7 March 2024 announcement confirmed that applications had to be submitted online through the Commission’s website.
The 2024 schedule is historical, not an upcoming exam calendar. SSC’s current listing has shown an update for uploading final marks for the 2024 examination. Check SSC’s current notice listing for any new recruitment; the dates and conditions below apply only to the 2024 cycle.
How the 4,187 tentative vacancies were divided
| Post | Tentative vacancies in the 2024 notice |
|---|---|
| Delhi Police SI (Executive), men | 125 |
| Delhi Police SI (Executive), women | 61 |
| CAPF SI (GD) | 4,001 |
| Total | 4,187 |
The CAPF allocation covered BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB. These figures were tentative, not a guarantee of final openings. SSC said it did not decide CAPF or Delhi Police vacancy totals: the Ministry of Home Affairs reports CAPF vacancies and Delhi Police reports its vacancies, while SSC makes selections against those reported posts. CAPF Sub-Inspectors may be liable to serve anywhere in India.

Who was eligible
Education
Applicants needed a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent, with the qualification assessed as of 1 August 2024. Candidates who had appeared in their bachelor’s examination could apply, but had to provide proof of qualification by the cutoff specified in the notice.
Rank #2
Age
The general age range was 20–25 years, reckoned as of 1 August 2024. Upper-age relaxation applied to specified categories, including SC/ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen and certain Delhi Police departmental candidates. The applicable rule depends on the candidate’s category and circumstances; use the relevant category provision in the official notice rather than assuming one expanded age range fits everyone.
Additional licence rule for male Delhi Police applicants
Men applying for the Delhi Police SI post needed a valid light motor vehicle (LMV) driving licence covering both motorcycle and car by the date set for the physical endurance and measurement tests. That additional licence condition did not apply to CAPF SI applicants, though they still had to meet the other eligibility rules.

Selection stages and written exam pattern
The notice set out four mandatory stages: Paper I, Physical Standard Test (PST)/Physical Endurance Test (PET), Paper II and Detailed Medical Examination (DME). PST/PET was qualifying, not scored. Written-paper performance, applicable NCC bonus marks and the candidate’s post or force preferences informed merit and allocation.
| Paper | Structure | Time | Negative marking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper I | 200 objective questions, 200 marks: General Intelligence and Reasoning; General Knowledge and General Awareness; Quantitative Aptitude; English Comprehension (50 questions per section) | 2 hours | 0.25 mark for each wrong answer |
| Paper II | English Language and Comprehension: 200 questions, 200 marks | 2 hours | 0.25 mark for each wrong answer |
Paper I parts I–III were set in Hindi and English. The notice described the syllabus as indicative: Paper I topics included verbal and non-verbal reasoning, analogies, classification, series, coding and decoding, general awareness, quantitative aptitude and English comprehension. Paper II covered English-language knowledge and comprehension, including grammar, vocabulary, spelling and error recognition. The listed topics describe the syllabus scope; they do not guarantee the exact questions.
Rank #4
Minimum qualifying marks in each paper, before NCC bonus marks, were 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for other categories. Allocation followed performance, applicable NCC bonus marks and preferences. When a candidate received the first available preference according to merit, the notice said they would not be considered for another option.

Physical measurements varied by sex and category, and the notice allowed specified relaxations for some hill-area and Scheduled Tribe candidates. For example, the general minimum height listed was 170 cm for men and 157 cm for women; lower heights applied to certain categories. Chest measurements applied to men, while the notice set no minimum chest measurement for women. These examples are not universal standards, so candidates needed to check the provision for their category.

| Candidate group | Endurance events listed in the 2024 notice |
|---|---|
| Men | 100 metres in 16 seconds; 1.6 km in 6.5 minutes; long jump 3.65 m; high jump 1.2 m; shot put 4.5 m (16 lb). The notice specified the number of attempts for jumps and shot put. |
| Women | 100 metres in 18 seconds; 800 metres in 4 minutes; long jump 2.7 m; high jump 0.9 m. The notice specified the number of attempts for jumps. |
The physical tests were qualifying or elimination stages and carried no marks. Ex-Servicemen were exempt from PET, but still had to meet applicable written, physical-standard and medical requirements.
Choosing between Delhi Police and CAPF preferences
The options differed in allocation and post-specific conditions. The notice described CAPF service as potentially anywhere in India, while male applicants for the Delhi Police SI post needed the motorcycle-and-car LMV licence by the physical-test date. Vacancy counts alone do not show an individual’s chance of selection: the notice’s figures do not provide an applicant or stage-wise denominator from which to calculate selection odds.
Before ranking preferences, candidates needed to consider the post and force options and read the notice’s allocation rules. Merit and preference determined allocation, and receiving the first available preference was binding under the notice.
