Spotify’s international Premium price increases began in some markets as early as June 2025, not June 2026. France’s new prices took effect on June 2, 2025, and Spotify later confirmed price updates across multiple regions. The company did not publish one complete list of affected countries, and increases varied by country and plan. The United States was not part of that June rollout; it received a separate increase in January 2026.
What Spotify announced—and what it did not
In April 2025, reporting pointed to planned increases in parts of Europe and Latin America, with Individual plans expected to rise by roughly the equivalent of €1 a month in some markets. That was an early reported expectation, not a universal price schedule. Music Business Worldwide’s report also described earlier increases in the Netherlands.

Spotify’s August 4, 2025 announcement confirmed price changes across markets in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. It directed customers to their local Premium page rather than listing every country and plan. Spotify said periodic updates help it continue investing in the service, features and audio content amid changing market conditions. When the increases took effect
- April 2025: Reporting described expected increases in parts of Europe and Latin America.
- June 2, 2025: Reported new prices took effect in France.
- June 2025 onward: Other markets followed on their own schedules; there was no single global June change date.
- August 4, 2025: Spotify publicly confirmed a broader set of international price updates.
- September 2025: Spotify separately announced further increases in select markets.
- January 15, 2026: Spotify announced a separate increase for the United States, Estonia and Latvia.
Confirmed examples and reported prices
France is a documented example of a June 2025 change. The following monthly prices were reported for France; the increases differed by plan. Music Business Worldwide’s France report

Other specifically reported examples included Spain, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Portugal, Italy and Malaysia, but the available announcements do not establish a complete country-by-country schedule or the exact price and effective date for every plan in each market. Spotify’s August announcement names broad regions, not every country. Check the local Premium page and your account notice rather than assuming a neighboring country’s prices apply to you.
The U.S. increase was a separate event
The June 2025 international rollout did not include the United States. Spotify announced a separate U.S. change on January 15, 2026, raising Individual Premium from $11.99 to $12.99 per month. Spotify’s announcement also covered Estonia and Latvia. Spotify’s January 2026 announcement

Spotify’s official announcement specifically confirmed the U.S. Individual price. The other U.S. tier amounts above were reported by What Hi-Fi; they should not be treated as prices for other countries.

Why there is no single global increase
Spotify adapts pricing to local market conditions, including purchasing power, costs and willingness to pay, according to its annual filing. Spotify’s filing As a result, a headline estimate such as “about €1 more” for some Individual plans cannot be applied to every currency, country or tier. Taxes, currency conversion, local rounding and billing arrangements can also affect the amount charged.
Spotify Premium generally includes ad-free listening, on-demand playback and offline downloads, while podcast, video and audiobook features vary by market and plan. Spotify’s 2026 investor-day remarks discussed audiobooks in more than 20 markets, not every market. Spotify investor-day remarks

What existing subscribers should check
Spotify says it emails existing subscribers about a price change and generally gives them a one-month grace period before the new rate applies. Trial users generally get one month at the old price after their trial ends before the new rate takes effect. Exact treatment can depend on the market and account. - Open your Spotify account page and check the plan, next billing date and billing provider.
- Read Spotify’s latest price-change email and note its stated effective date.
- Compare the notice with the price on your local Spotify Premium page.
- If Apple, Google, a mobile carrier or another partner bills you, use that provider’s subscription settings to review or cancel; the billing provider may control the change date and cancellation path.
- If you intend to cancel or change plans, do so before the relevant renewal or effective date and confirm the account page reflects the change.
Promotional pricing may end independently of a price update. Spotify’s support guidance also notes that gift-card rules are market-specific; it describes gift cards as redeemable on Individual Premium in the market covered by that guidance.

Options if the new price no longer works for you
- Keep the current plan: Consider how much you use ad-free and offline listening, and whether the plan’s other features matter to you.
- Compare plan types: A switch from Duo or Family to Individual can remove shared access. Family or Duo may still cost less per active person than separate Individual subscriptions, but calculate that using your local prices and follow the plan’s household and eligibility rules. - Use Spotify Free: The free, ad-supported tier keeps access to playlists and saved music, with ads and other restrictions.
- Compare another service: Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer and Tidal may suit different devices, bundles and listening preferences. Compare current local prices and features; no one service is universally cheaper or better. YouTube Premium may be more compelling if you also value ad-free YouTube video, while Amazon Music may be worth comparing if you already use Amazon services.
If you move services, playlist-transfer tools such as Soundiiz and TuneMyMusic can help copy playlists, but song matching is imperfect and some tracks may not be available on the destination service. They do not transfer all account data, such as listening history or recommendations. Review each tool’s permissions and terms before connecting accounts.
Spotify’s increases reflect localized pricing decisions; the company has also described continued investment and changing market conditions as reasons for updates. Industry coverage has connected price increases to efforts to improve profitability and revenue per paying user, but that is business analysis rather than Spotify’s sole stated explanation.
