In April 2025, Anker raised prices on a subset of products on Amazon’s U.S. marketplace as U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports surged. Reuters, citing SmartScout price data, reported increases on 127 products averaging about 18%; most were recorded after April 7. That was a snapshot—not a uniform increase across every Anker product or proof that prices are still rising today.
What changed on Amazon?
Reuters reported on April 11, 2025, that SmartScout had identified 127 Anker products with price increases on Amazon’s U.S. platform. The average increase in that snapshot was approximately 18%, and most of the observed changes came after April 7. The affected products included power banks, chargers, phone cases and other mobile accessories. Reuters described the affected share as roughly one-fifth of the analyzed assortment. Later, CBS described roughly a quarter of Anker’s Amazon products as having increased in price. It also reported that SmartScout found increases across nearly 1,000 Amazon products after the tariff escalation, with about 6% the most common increase and a smaller number of large increases lifting the average. The one-fifth and one-quarter estimates are not necessarily inconsistent: they may reflect different observation dates, product sets, definitions, or treatment of coupons and promotions. This was a change in prices for Anker products or offers on Amazon, not evidence that Amazon imposed a tariff surcharge. Amazon listings can have multiple sellers, changing featured offers, and temporary discounts. A displayed price may change when a seller or coupon changes, even if a manufacturer has not formally revised a product’s suggested retail price.

Why tariffs were the leading explanation
The increases coincided with a sharp April 2025 escalation in U.S. duties on Chinese imports. Reuters described tariffs reaching 145% at that point in the escalation. That figure is a historical snapshot of rapidly changing policy in April 2025, not a current rate or a rate that necessarily applied to every Anker product.
Reuters also reported that Anker told investors it had enough bargaining power to raise prices and that competing brands faced similar tariff pressure. Anker was considering growth in markets including Europe and Southeast Asia. Together, the timing, SmartScout’s product-level price tracking and the reported investor comments support a tariff-related explanation for the changes.

However, the reporting does not provide a product-by-product accounting of tariff costs. Reuters said Anker and Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment; the available account is not a detailed consumer announcement from Anker assigning a specific tariff surcharge to each product. It is more accurate to say prices rose as tariffs escalated and that tariff pass-through was a well-supported explanation than to claim every increase was exactly caused by, or equal to, a tariff.
Why an import tariff does not translate directly into the same retail increase
Tariffs are generally collected from the importer, not charged directly to a shopper at checkout. The importer, manufacturer, distributor and retailer can absorb the added cost, share it, or pass some of it along. A tariff applies to a product’s customs value; the consumer price also reflects manufacturing, shipping, warehousing, marketplace costs, advertising, taxes and margins. A tariff rate of 145% therefore does not mean the retail price automatically rises 145%.

Companies can also change the effective price without changing the listed price: for example, by ending a coupon or discount. Conversely, a price increase may be offset by a promotion. The observed 18% average across the 127 products is a measured price change in a particular snapshot, not a calculation of the tariff cost on each item.
Why some Anker listings may not have risen
A product that did not appear to increase is compatible with the reported findings: the data covered a subset of products over a particular period. Several factors can produce different prices across products or listings:

- Inventory timing: A seller may still be selling stock imported before the tariff change.
- Seller and offer changes: Anker, an affiliated seller, an independent marketplace seller or Amazon retail may offer the same model at different prices. The featured offer can change.
- Coupons and promotions: A coupon may conceal a higher list price, or an expired promotion may make a price look newly higher.
- Product and supply-chain differences: Country of origin, customs classification and import arrangements can vary. A brand name alone does not establish how a particular item is treated.
- Channel and region: Anker.com, Amazon and other retailers may have different promotions, inventory and fulfillment costs; prices outside the United States are not directly comparable.
Longer-term brand pricing trends are another possible factor for an individual item. The April 2025 reporting does not establish that every Anker price change before or after that period was tariff-driven.

- Match the exact model. Confirm model number and generation, charger wattage, number and type of ports, power-delivery protocols, or power-bank capacity and rated output. Similar product names can refer to materially different products.
- Calculate the checkout price. Include coupons, shipping and applicable taxes, and note whether the discount is temporary. Compare like-for-like offers rather than list prices alone.
- Check recent history. Price trackers such as Keepa and CamelCamelCamel can help show whether an Amazon offer is near a recent low. A history chart is useful context, not a guarantee of a future price.
- Compare channels and sellers. Check the same model at Anker’s official store and reputable retailers, including seller identity, warranty coverage, return terms and shipping. A cheaper marketplace listing may be a different generation or come from a seller with different protections.
- Compare specifications before switching brands. For chargers, check USB-C Power Delivery wattage and port configuration. For power banks, compare capacity, output and size. For either, consider safety documentation, warranty and the retailer’s return policy—not price alone.
For a standard charger, cable or power bank, a comparable alternative may be worth considering if it meets the same specifications and has clear safety and warranty information. Do not assume that a brand is tariff-free because of where it is headquartered or how it is marketed; actual exposure depends on manufacturing origin, components, classification and import arrangements.
What the 2025 report does—and does not—tell shoppers now
The April 2025 figures document a specific period of price changes; they do not show whether those increases remained in place, whether a particular SKU is more expensive today, or what current duties apply to that item. Anker’s May 2026 announcement shows the company continued to list products through Amazon.com and its own channels, but it is not a current price survey or evidence that the 2025 increases were permanent. For a current purchase, rely on the exact listing, seller, coupon-adjusted checkout price and recent price history. The April event is useful context for why some prices moved, not a substitute for checking today’s offer.
