Spirit reinstated change and cancellation fees for its unbundled Go fare on reservations booked on or after February 5, 2025. The change did not apply to Go Big, Go Savvy, or Go Comfy, according to a Spirit spokesperson quoted by The Points Guy. This is now historical information, not guidance for booking: Spirit ceased operations in May 2026, cancelled all flights, and said customer service was no longer available.
What changed for Spirit Go fares?
Spirit’s 2025 policy reversal applied to the unbundled Go travel option. The airline said change and cancellation fees would apply to Go reservations booked on or after February 5, 2025. The spokesperson’s statement, reported by The Points Guy, specified that the fees did not apply to Go Big, Go Savvy, or Go Comfy.
That distinction matters: the reported change was not a blanket fee reinstatement across every Spirit fare bundle, and it did not mean every Go booking necessarily had the same charge. The purchase date and the conditions attached to the individual reservation mattered.
How the policy changed over time
- May 7, 2024: Spirit announced that, effective May 17, there would be no fee to change or cancel a reservation on any Spirit flight. It noted that fare differences could still apply. Spirit’s announcement described the policy.
- July 30, 2024: Spirit introduced four travel options—Go Big, Go Comfy, Go Savvy, and Go—and said all included no change or cancellation fees at launch. The airline’s release outlined those options.
- February 5, 2025: The booking-date cutoff later cited for reinstated fees on unbundled Go reservations. A Spirit spokesperson told The Points Guy: “For our unbundled Go travel option, change and cancel fees will apply to reservations booked on or after Feb. 5, 2025.” The spokesperson added: “Change and cancel fees do not apply to Go Big, Go Savvy and Go Comfy.” The Points Guy’s report attributes both statements to Spirit.
- May 2, 2026: Spirit began an orderly wind-down and cancelled all flights. Its restructuring site says “all flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available.” The U.S. Department of Transportation also announced passenger-support coordination after the airline ceased operations. Spirit’s restructuring information and the Department of Transportation announcement describe the shutdown and response.
How much did it cost to change a Spirit Go flight?
The available information does not establish a complete fee schedule or a single charge that applied to every affected ticket. It confirms that fees applied to qualifying Go reservations booked on or after February 5, 2025, but the fee amount and any other conditions must be checked against the specific reservation’s fare rules. Fare differences could also affect the cost of changing a flight under Spirit’s earlier no-fee policy.

This policy cannot be used to book or change a current Spirit flight. Spirit’s restructuring site says the wind-down began May 2, 2026, all flights were cancelled, and customer service channels were no longer available. The site directs affected guests to refund and next-step information. The Department of Transportation separately announced that it coordinated with other carriers to support affected passengers.
