Spirit Airlines’ 11-city route cuts were announced in September 2025 and scheduled to take effect during the week of October 2, 2025. They are no longer a guide to current Spirit service: on May 2, 2026, the airline announced an immediate wind-down, canceled all flights and stopped customer service, according to The Associated Press. Here are the 11 cities on the 2025 list and what affected travelers should know.
Which cities did Spirit stop flying to?
Spirit announced it would end service during the week of October 2, 2025, in these 11 existing markets, according to The Points Guy:

Macon was a canceled launch, not an exit
Spirit also canceled a planned October 16, 2025, launch at Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Macon, Georgia. Macon was not one of the 11 existing markets from which the airline announced it would exit.
Why did Spirit cut these routes?
Spirit characterized the changes as a network redesign to concentrate flying in key markets and reduce its presence elsewhere. Fred Cromer, Spirit’s chief financial officer at the time, said: “Spirit is redesigning its network to focus its flying on key markets to provide more destinations, frequencies and enhanced connectivity in certain of our focus cities, while simultaneously reducing its presence in certain other cities.” The statement was reported by The Points Guy.

The cuts came as Spirit entered a second Chapter 11 restructuring in less than a year and sought to shrink its network, fleet and costs, according to ch-aviation. The company did not provide a separate financial explanation for each city.
Cirium schedule data reported by The Points Guy indicated that 3.9% of Spirit’s total seats scheduled for October 2025 were at the 12 airports being removed from its map, including the planned Macon launch. That figure describes scheduled seats at those airports, not the share of passengers affected or seats removed from every route.

What happened to Spirit after the 11-city cuts?
The 2025 announcement was followed by a much broader shutdown. On May 2, 2026, Spirit said it was beginning an immediate orderly wind-down. The Associated Press reported that all flights were canceled and customer service was no longer available. Spirit said it had operated for 34 years, the AP reported.
That means the 11-city list is historical context, not a complete account of Spirit’s current service. It should not be used to infer that Spirit still flies from other U.S. cities.

What should I do if my Spirit flight was canceled?
Check whether you have replacement travel or need a refund
A July 2026 consumer guide from The Points Guy, summarizing U.S. Department of Transportation rules, says travelers whose flights are canceled or significantly changed can receive a refund for the unused ticket portion if they choose not to travel. It says refunds are due within seven days for credit-card payments and 20 days for other payment methods. Whether those rules apply to a particular booking, and how a bankruptcy-related claim is handled, can depend on the circumstances; check current DOT guidance and the airline’s applicable process. Do not assume you can both accept replacement travel and claim a refund for the same unused itinerary.
Look for a current itinerary from your departure airport
Check live schedules from the airport you plan to use rather than relying on a 2025 route list to identify a replacement. Compare nonstop availability, the full fare including baggage and seat fees, departure times, airport distance and the carrier’s change and refund terms. The routes and fares available vary by date, and no particular substitute airline or itinerary is established here.

Treat old assistance offers as expired
Southwest announced temporary special fares for eligible overlapping routes after Spirit’s shutdown, but tickets had to be purchased at airport ticket counters by May 6, 2026. That offer has expired, according to Southwest’s May 2, 2026 announcement via PR Newswire.
