The available evidence does not confirm that BetZip raised investment money. A 2006 blog post instead described it as an online poker club funded by member subscriptions, with cash prizes in tournaments. A separate 2024 financing announcement concerned Betr Holdings, a different company.
What is known about BetZip?
The available BetZip account is a historical blog post published on April 9, 2006. Its author described BetZip as a poker-style online club started by former Looksmart CEO Jason Kellerman; that attribution is the blogger’s, not an independently confirmed company record. Read the 2006 SharkJumping post.
The post describes a business model based on monthly membership fees. It says players did not wager money in games, while tournaments offered cash prizes. That account describes subscription revenue and prize arrangements, not an equity investment round or other outside financing. The post’s view about the model’s legality is the author’s opinion, not a legal finding.
Was the membership model the same as raising investment?
No. These are different sources of money. A subscription is payment from customers or members for access to a service; player wagering would involve money risked in a game; investment is capital provided in exchange for an ownership stake or under another financing arrangement. The 2006 post discusses the first and tournament prizes, but does not establish that BetZip raised investment.

Why is Betr’s 2024 financing sometimes confused with BetZip?
Betr Holdings, Inc. announced $15 million in strategic equity financing on March 6, 2024, at a reported $375 million valuation. Betr described itself as a sports gaming and sports media company founded by Joey Levy and Jake Paul in 2022. This financing belongs to Betr Holdings, not BetZip. Read Betr’s financing announcement.
