The headline figures refer to a Groundforce ground-handling strike called by UGT, CCOO and USO in March 2026. The Spanish transport ministry’s order lists 5,578 workers at 13 centers; separate coverage reported 3,000-plus workers at 12 airports. Those counts differ, and the available sources do not explain why. A tracker updated 5 August 2026 reported the action suspended since early April, so it should not be described as currently active on that evidence alone.
What is the Spain airport strike?
It is a labor dispute involving Groundforce, a company that provides ground-handling services. The call was made by the air-sector federations of UGT (FeSMC-UGT), CCOO (FSC-CCOO) and USO (USO-STA). The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility’s March 2026 minimum-services order says the call applied to Groundforce operations at Spanish airports, offices and cargo terminals where the company operated. Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility
VisaHQ’s 28 March report attributed the dispute to workers seeking wage-indexation clauses in the sectoral collective agreement. That is reported context; the ministry order confirms the strike call and scope but does not provide a full account of the unions’ demands. VisaHQ News
How many workers and airports are involved?
The figures depend on the source. The ministry order records 5,578 workers across 13 listed Groundforce centers. VisaHQ reported 3,000-plus workers at 12 airports. These are not interchangeable totals: the available reporting does not establish why the counts or scopes differ.

For a travel decision on or after 5 August, check the airline and airport’s current notices rather than assuming the strike remains suspended or has resumed. The similarity between this headline’s 3,000-plus workers and 12 airports and reporting about Azul Handling can also cause confusion: Azul Handling is a separate employer and dispute. Particle News

A ground-handling stoppage can affect baggage handling and aircraft turnaround, but the cited sources do not establish a total number of cancellations, delays or lost bags for this strike. The presence of a center on the ministry list does not by itself show that a particular flight was disrupted.
