SpaceX has traded publicly as SPCX since June 2026. Compare it with space-focused companies and funds, from launch and connectivity to imagery and infrastructure.

SpaceX is no longer private: its Class A shares trade on Nasdaq as SPCX, beginning June 12, 2026. Investors seeking other ways to invest in the space sector can compare individual companies focused on launch, satellite connectivity, imagery, or infrastructure, as well as funds with space-related mandates. These choices do not provide identical exposure, and a fund’s name alone does not tell you what it owns.

SpaceX is now publicly traded

SpaceX announced that its Class A shares began trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas on June 12, 2026, under ticker SPCX. The IPO closed June 15, 2026, with approximately $85.7 billion in gross proceeds, according to the company’s closing announcement. SpaceX’s June 11 pricing announcement set an IPO offering price of $135 per share; that was the initial offer price, not a current trading price.

That makes SPCX the direct public-market route to SpaceX shares. The alternatives below instead provide exposure to other companies or to funds whose holdings may span several businesses. The available disclosures cited here establish listing and business descriptions, but do not establish current valuations or which security is appropriate for a particular investor.

Compare the main public-market choices

Choice What the exposure represents What to examine
SpaceX (SPCX) Direct ownership of SpaceX Class A shares. Current valuation, share-class and governance disclosures, liquidity, and current filings.
Rocket Lab (RKLB) Launch services, satellite manufacture, spacecraft components, and on-orbit management. Business mix, customer and government-contract exposure, execution, and development risk.
AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) Space-based cellular broadband. Network construction and commercialization progress.
Planet Labs (PL) Satellite imagery data and insights. Data and analytics sales, customer mix, and imagery use cases.
Redwire (RDW) Aerospace infrastructure, autonomous systems, and multi-domain operations, as described by the company. Contract and customer mix, execution, and how much activity is space-related.
Space-themed funds A portfolio selected under a specific fund mandate; holdings and concentration vary. Current holdings, fees, liquidity, foreign holdings, and whether exposure is direct or indirect.

Individual companies offer different kinds of space exposure

Rocket Lab: launch and space systems

Rocket Lab describes itself as an end-to-end space company spanning launch services, satellite manufacture, spacecraft components, and on-orbit management. Its investor-relations page says Electron has flown since January 2018 and identifies Neutron as under development. That mix differs from a pure launch-services bet: investors should consider both the established Electron program and the risks involved in developing Neutron, alongside contract and customer concentration. See Rocket Lab investor relations for company disclosures.

AST SpaceMobile: cellular connectivity

AST SpaceMobile’s stated focus is space-based broadband connectivity to ordinary cellular devices. The company describes its aim as “Inventing direct-to-cell broadband to end dead zones and connect the unconnected” and identifies its listing as NASDAQ: ASTS. This is company positioning, not a guarantee of service rollout or investment performance. Its investment case centers on network build-out and commercialization rather than launch operations or satellite imagery. See AST SpaceMobile investor relations.

Planet Labs: imagery and data

Planet Labs sells satellite imagery data and insights, with applications the company lists in agriculture, forestry, mapping, and government. Its investor-relations overview describes a fleet of approximately 200 Earth-imaging satellites; that is a company-stated figure, not an independently verified sector statistic. Consider the data and analytics business, customer mix, and uses of imagery rather than treating Planet as a launch-company substitute. See Planet Labs’ overview and check its latest filings for current company metrics.

Redwire: aerospace infrastructure and systems

Redwire describes its work as aerospace infrastructure, autonomous systems, and multi-domain operations. That broad description does not establish that all its revenue comes from space activities, so investors should review the company’s filings and contract mix rather than infer a pure-play exposure from its positioning. See Redwire investor relations.

Space funds can broaden exposure, but check their actual portfolios

Funds can hold several space-related companies, but “space” is not a uniform investment category. A fund may hold launch, satellite, infrastructure, or other businesses in different proportions; it may also concentrate heavily in a small number of positions. Read the latest prospectus and holdings rather than relying on a fund name or ticker.

VegaShares SpaceX & Beyond Earth ETF

The SEC-filed June 14, 2026 summary prospectus says the fund seeks capital appreciation and invests in SpaceX and other “Commercial Space Ecosystem Companies.” It describes an actively managed, rules-informed process, generally expects a portfolio of 20–30 companies, and classifies the fund as non-diversified. The prospectus also says the fund intends a meaningfully higher SpaceX weighting for a period following the IPO than its general allocation ranges, subject to liquidity, risk-management, market conditions, and legal constraints. The strategy and holdings can change; consult the SEC-filed summary prospectus and current holdings.

Tema Space Innovators ETF (NASA)

The Tema Space Innovators ETF trades under ticker NASA on NYSE Arca and has a long-term growth objective, according to its SEC-filed prospectus. The 2026 prospectus stated total annual fund operating expenses of 0.94% before a waiver and 0.87% after the waiver; check the current prospectus for the applicable fee schedule. The ticker does not indicate a NASA relationship: the prospectus says the fund has no affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Read the SEC-filed Tema prospectus for the fund’s mandate, risks, and fee details.

Daily leveraged and inverse SpaceX funds are a separate, high-risk choice

Direxion describes LOFF and LOFD as daily +200% and -200% funds linked to SpaceX shares. A daily target is not the same as delivering twice the stock’s return or the inverse of its return over a longer holding period. Daily resets, volatility, and compounding can make longer-term results diverge from those simple multiples. These products are not ordinary diversified alternatives to owning a company or a broad fund. Direxion’s product page displayed gross expenses of 0.99% and net expenses of 0.97% for both when accessed, alongside NAV data through August 25, 2026; fees and product details can change. Review the Direxion product page and fund documents, including the intended holding period and risks, before considering them.

How to choose what to research next

  • Decide which business activity you want exposure to. Launch, cellular connectivity, imagery data, and aerospace infrastructure have different customers, revenue drivers, and execution risks.
  • Separate company exposure from fund exposure. An individual stock concentrates exposure in one issuer; a fund depends on its holdings, weighting rules, and changes in portfolio.
  • Review concentration and liquidity. Check the latest holdings, prospectus, trading volume, and relevant company disclosures rather than relying on a thematic label.
  • Compare fees and product mechanics. For funds, check current expenses and whether the strategy uses leverage or daily resets.
  • Use current filings for investment decisions. The cited sources establish issuer descriptions and particular prospectus details, not current valuations, earnings quality, expected returns, tax treatment, broker eligibility, or availability in every jurisdiction.

As of October 7, 2026, the key distinction is straightforward: SPCX represents direct SpaceX ownership, while the other stocks and funds offer different or broader space-sector exposures. This is an informational comparison, not a buy or sell recommendation.
