Southwest announced 13 additional overnight routes for summer 2025, with service scheduled to begin June 5, and a seasonal Saturday flight from Colorado Springs to Cancún beginning June 7. Those dates have passed: the announcement does not confirm whether any of these routes operate in 2026 or how often they fly now.
What Southwest announced
The Points Guy reported on October 31, 2024, that Southwest planned to add 13 red-eye flights to its summer 2025 schedule. Four were described as routes new to Southwest; the remaining nine were a mix of seasonal resumptions, returning service and additional daily flights. The report did not provide flight times or a route-by-route frequency for all 13.

The Points Guy said Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) would receive six of the 13 flights and Seattle would have four new red-eye departures. It also reported that Southwest’s full summer 2025 schedule would include 33 red-eye flights; that is a historical schedule figure, not a current count.
Colorado Springs’ planned Cancún service
The report said Southwest planned seasonal service between Colorado Springs (COS) and Cancún (CUN), starting June 7, 2025, with one flight each Saturday. It described the route as Colorado Springs Airport’s first international service. These were planned details in the 2024 announcement, not confirmation of current service.

Why Southwest said it was adding red-eyes
Southwest chief operating officer Andrew Watterson said overnight flights would help reduce aircraft turn times and improve aircraft productivity, connectivity and network efficiency. The route announcement did not quantify potential savings or explain how the changes might affect fares, so it does not establish whether travelers would pay less.

The announced launch dates were in June 2025. The Points Guy report does not establish whether the routes remain in Southwest’s 2026 schedule, their current frequencies, or whether the seasonal COS–CUN service has been renewed. Before planning around one of these flights, check Southwest’s current booking results or timetable for your travel dates. A past launch announcement alone is not evidence that a flight is currently available.
