There is no verified official figure for Southampton FC’s 2026/27 player wage bill. Salary Sport estimates annual wages of £36,789,480 across 69 players and lists James Ward-Prowse as the highest earner at £125,000 a week. Capology estimates £41.86 million in gross fixed wages, excluding bonuses, and lists Aaron Ramsdale at £120,000 a week. These are third-party estimates, not salaries confirmed by the club.
What is Southampton’s wage bill in 2026/27?
It depends on which salary tracker you use. The providers give different totals and describe their figures differently, so neither estimate should be treated as an audited or official Southampton payroll.
| Source and season | Estimated annual figure | Scope stated by the source |
|---|---|---|
| Salary Sport, 2026/27 | £36,789,480 a year (£707,490 a week) | 69 players; the roster count reflects a broad squad scope. |
| Capology, 2026/27 | £41,860,000 a year (£805,000 a week) | Gross fixed wages, excluding bonuses; its tracked first-team wage calculation is distinct from broader personnel-cost figures. |
| SalaryLeaks, 2026/27 page | £17.7 million | The displayed roster contains 15 players. SalaryLeaks says Championship salary data is rarely comprehensive and that many figures are informed estimates. |
The difference between the two larger estimates is not evidence that one number is the club’s true payroll. Tracker totals can reflect different roster populations and estimation methods, as well as different treatment of loans and bonuses. SalaryLeaks’ smaller visible roster makes its total particularly difficult to interpret as a whole-club wage bill.
Who is Southampton’s highest earner?
The answer also varies by tracker. Salary Sport names James Ward-Prowse at an estimated £125,000 per week for 2026/27; Capology names Aaron Ramsdale at an estimated £120,000 gross per week. Southampton has not confirmed either individual salary in the cited sources. The £5,000 weekly difference is not enough to establish which estimate is accurate.

Older reports naming Alex McCarthy should not be presented as current: Southampton’s 2025/26 retained list confirms that McCarthy and Joe Aribo, among other players, departed after that season.

Southampton Football Club Limited reported £99,233,000 in wages for the financial year ended 30 June 2025, compared with £69,019,000 for the year ended 30 June 2024, according to the company filing history. This is a company-wide accounts line for a past financial year, not a current 2026/27 first-team salary total. It should not be compared directly with a tracker’s player-wage estimate as though both measure the same thing.

How to read the estimates
- Check the season: the tracker estimates above are for 2026/27, while the latest accounts figure cited here covers the year ended 30 June 2025.
- Check what is counted: Salary Sport reports 69 players, Capology describes gross fixed wages excluding bonuses, and SalaryLeaks displays 15 players.
- Separate estimates from filed accounts: a tracker’s player-pay estimate is not a club-confirmed disclosure, and the company accounts figure is not a first-team payroll.
