South Florida’s weekly gas-price drop varied by area: on Monday, October 5, regular gas averaged $4.15 per gallon in Miami-Dade, $4.16 in Fort Lauderdale, $4.26 in West Palm Beach/Boca Raton and $4.37 in Monroe County. Those were regional averages, not guaranteed prices at individual stations. AAA’s newer Tuesday, October 6 tracker showed local metro averages still above $4 and Florida’s statewide average higher than the previous day.
South Florida gas prices by area
The Miami Herald, citing AAA averages, reported the following prices and week-over-week changes for Monday, October 5, 2026:

The report identified the Keys and Palm Beach County among Florida’s more expensive areas overall and North Florida as the least expensive, but the precise local figures above are the report’s named regional averages. Read the October 5 Miami Herald report, syndicated by AOL.
What the newer AAA tracker says
AAA’s Florida fuel-price page listed the statewide regular-gas average at $4.1469 per gallon on Tuesday, October 6, up from $4.0603 on October 5. The October 6 metro averages were $4.1678 in Miami, $4.1992 in Fort Lauderdale and $4.3021 in West Palm Beach-Boca Raton.

These figures do not conflict with the weekly declines reported the day before: the October 5 figures compare prices with a week earlier, while AAA’s October 6 state figure shows a one-day increase from October 5. The tracker also listed Florida’s statewide average at $4.2989 a week earlier, $3.9131 a month earlier and $3.0249 a year earlier. Why prices dropped—and why they can turn again
In an October 4 update, AAA – The Auto Club Group said Florida’s average had fallen 34 cents per gallon over nine days as oil prices retreated from recent highs. AAA pointed to the G7 decision to release 100 million barrels from emergency reserves and improving oil exports from the Middle East as factors easing supply concerns. It reported that crude, which had been above $100 per barrel in mid-September, was $91.11 on Friday, October 2. AAA estimated drivers were saving about $5 to $7 per fill-up compared with prices just over a week earlier. These are AAA’s explanation and estimate, not a guarantee of what any driver will pay.

Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, told the Miami Herald that declines could continue in many states, but price-cycling markets might swing upward. He also said shipments through the Strait of Hormuz were rising while refineries behind the Strait were not yet fully able to move products through, a mismatch that could keep gasoline and diesel elevated relative to crude prices alone. How to find a lower price near you
Because averages do not guarantee a station’s posted price, compare current listings before making a special trip. AAA recommends checking local prices in its app. Its price averages are for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline and are based on daily data gathered from up to 130,000 stations through credit-card swipes and direct feeds, in cooperation with the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express.

- Compare nearby station prices and confirm the listing is current before driving out of your way.
- Check whether a station offers a lower cash price; compare the final price with any payment-card costs.
- Consider fuel-rewards programs only after checking their current terms and participating locations. Availability and discounts vary.
Ways to use less fuel
Rewards and cash prices can reduce what you pay per gallon; other steps aim to reduce how much fuel you use. AAA recommends combining errands, checking tire pressure regularly, and avoiding aggressive driving and speeding. A tire pressure gauge can help you monitor tire pressure; it does not change pump prices or identify cheaper stations. AAA also provides a gas-cost calculator and additional fuel-saving suggestions.
