Sony Group reported ¥2,621.6 billion in continuing-operations sales for its first quarter of fiscal 2025, up 2% year over year. The quarter ended June 30, 2025, and the results were published August 7, 2025. Sony’s yen-reported sales convert to about US$17.8 billion; that is a conversion, not the currency Sony used to report its results.
What Sony reported for the quarter
Sony said continuing-operations sales and operating income were first-quarter records. Net income attributable to Sony Group stockholders also increased year over year.
| Measure | Q1 FY2025 | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|
| Continuing-operations sales | ¥2,621.6 billion | +2% |
| Operating income | ¥340.0 billion | +36% |
| Net income attributable to Sony Group stockholders | ¥259.0 billion | +23% |
Sony’s presentation gives the quarter’s average exchange rate as ¥144.6 per US dollar. At that rate, ¥2,621.6 billion is approximately US$18.1 billion; the roughly US$17.8 billion figure used in the headline coverage is a publisher conversion. Sony’s reported figure is the yen amount. Sony’s Q1 FY2025 financial results presentation sets out the results and exchange-rate basis.
How PlayStation contributed
Sony’s Game & Network Services segment reported sales of ¥936.5 billion, up 8%, and operating income of ¥148.0 billion, up 127%, year over year. These are segment figures, not Sony Group’s total revenue. Sony attributed the segment’s sales increase primarily to third-party game software, including add-on content, and network services; foreign exchange weighed on sales. Sony’s results presentation provides the segment figures and management’s explanation.

The quarterly number and cumulative total measure console sales; they are not the same as the number of people or accounts using PlayStation.
PlayStation activity and the longer-term comparison
Sony reported 123 million monthly active accounts on PlayStation in June 2025, up 6% year over year. Sony defines this measure as an estimated count of unique accounts that played games or used services on PlayStation Network during the last month of the quarter. In its August 2025 presentation, Sony forecast FY2025 content and service revenue at approximately 50% above FY2018 on a US-dollar basis. That was a company forecast at the time, not a confirmed result for FY2025. Sony said it expected content and service revenue to continue growing steadily from the following fiscal year, citing the user community it had built. It also said growth in spending per user, alongside an increase in users, was contributing to revenue growth. These are management’s explanations and expectations, not independent measurements of future performance.
