Sony’s announced PS5 price changes for Europe, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand took effect on April 14, 2025—but they did not apply to every console in every market. In Europe and the U.K., the increase applied to the Digital Edition; Sony said the disc-drive PS5 price was unchanged. Australia and New Zealand received new recommended prices for both console editions. Sony later announced another round of global price increases effective April 2, 2026, so the 2025 figures below are historical, not a reliable guide to today’s local prices.
What Sony changed in April 2025
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the revised recommended retail prices (RRPs) on April 13, 2025, with the new prices effective April 14. The changes varied by market and console edition. Sony said the PS5 Pro RRP was unchanged, while the separately sold Disc Drive for PS5 received a price reduction in the listed markets. Sony’s April 13, 2025 announcement attributed the decision to a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates. Those are Sony’s stated reasons, not independently established explanations for the change.
| Market | Console edition | Announced RRP | Effective date and scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe | PS5 Digital Edition | €499.99 | April 14, 2025; Sony said the standard PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive was unchanged. |
| U.K. | PS5 Digital Edition | £429.99 | April 14, 2025; Sony said the standard PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive was unchanged. |
| Australia | Standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive | AUD $829.95 | April 14, 2025. |
| Australia | PS5 Digital Edition | AUD $749.95 | April 14, 2025. |
| New Zealand | Standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive | NZD $949.95 | April 14, 2025. |
| New Zealand | PS5 Digital Edition | NZD $859.95 | April 14, 2025. |
Was the disc-drive PS5 price increased in Europe or the U.K.?
No. Sony said the standard PS5 model with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive had no price change in Europe and the U.K. The 2025 increase there applied to the Digital Edition. In Australia and New Zealand, Sony listed new RRPs for both the standard disc-drive model and the Digital Edition.
Did Sony lower the price of the PS5 Disc Drive accessory?
Yes. Sony reduced the RRP of the separately sold Disc Drive for PS5, effective April 14, 2025. These are the announced accessory RRPs, not console prices:

The 2026 announcement supersedes the 2025 European and U.K. figures for current-price context. It does not list Australia or New Zealand RRPs; Sony directs customers in other territories to local retailers or PlayStation Direct where available. Check a local listing for those countries rather than treating the 2025 figures as current. Sony’s 2026 post describes continued global economic pressures as its rationale for the increase. How to use these prices when budgeting for a PS5
- Check the country and edition. Digital Edition and disc-drive models do not share one price, and Sony’s 2025 changes differed by market.
- Separate RRP from a live offer. Sony’s announced RRP is not necessarily what a retailer currently charges.
- Check the date. The 2025 prices took effect April 14, 2025; the later listed-market prices took effect April 2, 2026.
- For Australia and New Zealand, verify locally. Sony’s cited 2026 post does not state post-increase prices for either country.
