The digital-infrastructure investor is now a controlled SoftBank subsidiary and, SoftBank says, will continue as a separately managed platform led by CEO Marc Ganzi. The often-cited approximately $4 billion figure is the deal’s announced enterprise value; the closing release reported approximately $3.1 billion for the acquisition of DigitalBridge’s outstanding common stock.
What SoftBank acquired and when the deal closed
SoftBank Group announced that it had completed the acquisition of all outstanding DigitalBridge common stock on September 30, 2026. DigitalBridge is now a controlled subsidiary. SoftBank said it will continue operating as a separately managed platform led by Ganzi, rather than being described as folded into SoftBank’s day-to-day operations. SoftBank’s completion announcement
DigitalBridge invests in digital infrastructure, including data centers, cell towers, fiber networks, small cells and edge infrastructure. Those asset categories help explain why SoftBank connected the acquisition to infrastructure for AI services and applications. SoftBank’s description of DigitalBridge
Why reports cite both $4 billion and $3.1 billion
The figures refer to different transaction measures. DigitalBridge’s December 29, 2025 announcement described the transaction as having approximately $4.0 billion in total enterprise value. SoftBank’s September 30, 2026 closing release reported approximately $3.1 billion for the acquisition of all outstanding common stock. They should not be treated as competing estimates of the same measure. DigitalBridge’s deal announcement · SoftBank’s closing release

What “third-party infrastructure arm” means—and what it does not establish
A surfaced Financial Times headline attributes the description “third-party infrastructure arm” to Ganzi. The phrase suggests a role serving infrastructure needs beyond SoftBank itself, but the available report excerpt does not establish the specific governance, financing, or project arrangements behind that characterization. It is not evidence that DigitalBridge has become an internal construction operator. Financial Times headline and excerpt

That establishes ownership and the stated operating arrangement, but does not by itself specify how future investments will be funded or which projects DigitalBridge will pursue.

When announcing the acquisition in December 2025, SoftBank said it would strengthen its ability to build, scale and finance foundational infrastructure for next-generation AI services and applications. That is the company’s stated strategic rationale—not evidence that the acquisition has already produced new infrastructure, investment returns, or a particular pace of construction.
