Social Security beneficiaries in the birthday group from the 1st through the 10th are scheduled to receive their October 2026 payment on Wednesday, October 14. The birthday schedule generally applies to people who applied for benefits after April 30, 1997; the controlling birthday is that of the worker whose earnings record supports the benefit, which may differ from the recipient’s birthday. SSA’s 2026 payment calendar lists the date and birthday group.

Who is scheduled to be paid on October 14?

October 14, 2026 is the second Wednesday of the month. Under Social Security’s birthday schedule, that is the payment date for beneficiaries whose relevant birthday falls on the 1st through the 10th. The schedule generally covers people who applied for Social Security after April 30, 1997. The birthday used is the insured worker’s—the person whose earnings record the benefit is based on—not necessarily the beneficiary’s own birthday. See the SSA 2026 payment calendar and its explanation of who receives benefits on which date.

Who follows a different payment schedule?

The birthday-based Wednesday schedule does not apply to everyone. Social Security says people who began receiving benefits before May 1997, and people who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), generally receive their Social Security payment on the third of each month. SSI-only payments generally arrive on the first of the month. When the scheduled day falls on a weekend or federal holiday, payment is made earlier under the applicable adjustment rule.

What are the other October Wednesday payment dates?

For beneficiaries on the post-April-1997 birthday schedule, the other October dates depend on the insured worker’s birth date:

Worker’s birthday October 2026 payment date
1st–10th Wednesday, October 14
11th–20th Wednesday, October 21
21st–31st Wednesday, October 28

These are the dates in SSA’s 2026 calendar. The governing rule provides for payment on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday according to those birthday bands, with an earlier payment when the scheduled date is a Saturday, Sunday, or federal legal holiday. See 20 CFR § 404.1807.

How to check your personal payment date

Use SSA’s online payment schedule lookup through a my Social Security account to check upcoming or past payments. SSA also offers automated phone assistance; say “check delivery” to the system. If a payment does not arrive on the expected date, SSA advises allowing three additional mailing days before contacting the agency, as stated in its 2026 payment calendar.
