That was far ahead of the weekend’s next film, which took in an estimated $4.4 million—but the opening was modest beside several prominent Disney remakes. Later reporting put Snow White’s domestic opening at $42.2 million and its worldwide total at about $205.7 million.
What did “blows away the competition” mean?
The headline described the gap between Snow White and the other films in the North American chart that weekend, not a victory over Disney’s earlier remake openings. The Associated Press reported Sunday studio estimates of $43 million for Snow White and $4.4 million for the next title, making it the weekend’s clear chart leader. Those figures were estimates published March 23, 2025, not final box-office totals. The Associated Press’s Sunday report also estimated $44.3 million overseas, or $87.3 million worldwide, for the opening frame.
Later figures tell a slightly different story. The Numbers records a final domestic opening weekend of $42,206,415. That is the appropriate figure to use when comparing the film’s opening with other titles’ recorded domestic debuts. The Numbers’ Snow White page lists the domestic opening and the film’s subsequent totals.
How did Snow White’s domestic opening compare?
On a like-for-like domestic opening-weekend basis, Snow White started below four notable Disney remake releases. Figures below are nominal dollars reported for each film’s original release, not adjusted for inflation. The list is a useful sample, not a complete ranking of every Disney remake.

| Film | Domestic opening weekend | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Snow White (2025) | $42,206,415 | The Numbers final opening-weekend figure, accessed October 8, 2026. The AP had estimated $43 million on March 23, 2025. |
| Dumbo (2019) | $45,990,748 | The Numbers, accessed October 8, 2026; AP rounded this to $46 million in its 2025 comparison. |
| Cinderella (2015) | $67.9 million | AP’s reported domestic opening figure in 2025. |
| The Little Mermaid (2023) | $95,578,040 | The Numbers, accessed October 8, 2026. |
| Beauty and the Beast (2017) | $174,750,616 | The Numbers, accessed October 8, 2026. |
Snow White narrowly trailed Dumbo in this selection and opened substantially below the other three. The gap illustrates why topping a particular weekend’s chart does not, by itself, mean a film has opened strongly against the broader history of Disney remakes. Release calendars and audience conditions vary, too, so these nominal opening figures are comparisons—not a controlled measure of audience demand.
Where did its final box office land?
The Numbers lists Snow White’s final domestic gross at $87,203,963, its international gross at $118,475,500, and its worldwide total at $205,679,463. These are lifetime gross figures, distinct from the opening-weekend estimate reported on Sunday.
Rank #2
The result was far below the exceptional outcomes sometimes associated with Disney’s remake cycle. The AP noted that The Lion King (2019) earned more than $1.6 billion worldwide, a very different scale of performance. Outcomes across the slate varied widely; that contrast does not establish a precise rank for Snow White among all remakes.
What do the budget and grosses say about profitability?
The Numbers lists a production budget of $269.4 million for Snow White. That reported production-budget figure exceeds the film’s listed worldwide box-office gross, but the comparison alone does not establish the film’s profit or loss. A production budget is not a complete accounting: the cited figures do not include a full view of marketing costs, the share of ticket revenue retained by theaters, or other revenue such as home entertainment.

For that reason, the $205.7 million worldwide gross should not be described as a definitive break-even result. Determining profitability would require a fuller accounting than these box-office and production-budget figures provide.
How should the regional opening numbers be read?
Disney UK reported a £3.85 million three-day opening for the UK and Ireland. It also estimated a $23.4 million cumulative EMEA box office after the film’s first week in cinemas. The first number covers one regional opening weekend; the second covers a wider region and a longer period. Neither is a substitute for the film’s global opening total. Disney UK’s release report gives those regional figures.

In its March 23, 2025 report, the AP said reviews stood at 43% “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes and that the film received a B+ CinemaScore. These are reception snapshots reported at the time, not evidence that reviews or audience ratings caused the film’s box-office result.
AP film writer Jake Coyle described the remake’s opening in context: “There’s been a wide variance between the box-office performance of other ‘live-action’ Disney remakes, but ‘Snow White’ might mark a new nadir.” That was Coyle’s contemporaneous assessment, not an official ranking of every Disney remake.
