Disney’s live-action Snow White opened in first place in the U.S. and Canada with an estimated $43 million over March 21–23, 2025. The Numbers later listed its three-day opening-weekend gross as $42,206,415, a figure that conventionally rounds to $42 million—not $43 million.
What the $43 million headline measured
The Associated Press reported the approximately $43 million figure on Sunday, March 23, based on studio estimates. It described the film as the weekend’s top title at the U.S. and Canadian box office. The headline was a contemporary estimate, not the later database figure.
The opening-weekend period was Friday through Sunday, March 21–23, 2025, when the film opened across the U.S. and Canada. In box-office reporting, “domestic” commonly refers to those two markets together; it does not mean worldwide ticket sales.
Why a later listing shows a different total
The Numbers lists $42,206,415 as the final opening-weekend figure. Rounded to the nearest million, that is $42 million. The gap from the AP’s approximately $43 million Sunday estimate reflects different reporting stages and figures; the estimate and later listing should not be presented as identical.

Weekend gross versus opening-week gross
The Numbers’ weekly chart reports $52,614,583 for the week beginning March 21, 2025. That covers a longer time window than the three-day weekend, so it should not be compared with $42,206,415 as though both numbers measured the same period.

How the opening compared with expectations
Before release, the AP reported estimates of $45 million to $55 million for the opening weekend, based on analyst projections and presale ticket estimates. The Sunday estimate of about $43 million came in below that reported range. The comparison is between pre-release expectations and a Sunday estimate; the sources do not establish a final opening-weekend result against a separately finalized forecast.

The AP noted pre-release controversy around the film, including its CGI depiction of the dwarfs and comments by star Rachel Zegler. The cited reporting does not establish that either issue caused the film’s opening result. Domestic gross figures alone also do not establish worldwide performance or whether the film was profitable; the figures presented here are not a complete accounting of production, marketing, distribution, or international revenue.
