Jacob Andreou left Snap in 2023 after roughly eight years to join Greylock as a general partner focused on consumer investing. Snap confirmed the move, which was announced on March 27, 2023, with Andreou expected to depart in May.
The career move was more than a transition from corporate growth executive to venture capitalist. Andreou had worked across product, design, analytics, data science, user research and growth at Snap. Later reporting places him at Microsoft, where he became executive vice president of Copilot in March 2026.

What happened to Jacob Andreou?
Snap confirmed that Andreou was leaving the company after approximately eight years and planned to join Greylock as a general partner. The announcement was first reported by TechCrunch on March 27, 2023. His departure from Snap was expected to take place in May 2023.
At Greylock, Andreou’s remit was consumer investing. The firm said he would work with founders building the next generation of consumer platforms, social experiences, creator products and artificial-intelligence-enabled applications.

Andreou described the change as the beginning of his investing career. In his announcement on LinkedIn, he said his time at Snap had shown him the value of supporting a visionary founder and that he wanted to partner with the next generation of consumer founders.
Andreou’s career at Snap
Andreou joined Snap in May 2015 as a design engineer, according to TechCrunch’s account of his career. He subsequently held several product and growth roles, including:
- Director of Growth
- Director of Product and Growth
- Vice president of Product
- Senior vice president of Growth
He became Snap’s senior vice president of Growth in July 2022, during an executive reshuffle. That final title helps explain why contemporary headlines described him as Snap’s head of growth, but it does not capture the full scope of his work.
Greylock’s announcement described Andreou as a product executive who had led teams covering product, design, growth, data science, analytics and user research. In other words, his move to venture capital was not simply a shift from user acquisition to investing. It was a move by a broad consumer-product operator who had worked on development, distribution, international expansion and monetization.
What did Andreou accomplish at Snap?
Greylock credited Andreou with helping build Snap’s growth team and develop a “Core-Product-Value” growth framework. The firm also said he helped create an international growth playbook and contributed to major product and advertising initiatives.

Those initiatives included:
- Spotlight, Snap’s short-form video product.
- My AI, Snap’s chatbot powered by ChatGPT.
- Advertising formats including App Install, Web View and Video View units.
Greylock said Snap’s daily active users grew from approximately 80 million to 363 million during Andreou’s tenure. It also described Snap as having more than 360 million daily active users and approximately $4.5 billion in revenue at the time of the announcement.
These figures came from Greylock’s description of Andreou’s record. They should not be read as evidence that he personally caused all of Snap’s user or revenue growth. Those results reflected the work of many teams, executives and product groups, as well as changing market conditions, acquisitions and the company’s broader strategy. A more precise description is that Andreou contributed to the systems, products and teams involved in Snap’s growth.
Why Greylock recruited him
Greylock’s rationale was that Andreou had experienced the consumer-product lifecycle at scale. His background covered early product development, user growth, international expansion, organization building, platform management, advertising and AI product launches.
That experience can be particularly relevant to early-stage consumer startups, where product quality alone does not guarantee adoption. Founders also need to understand onboarding, retention, engagement loops, distribution, experimentation, internationalization and monetization.

- How should a product turn initial usage into repeat engagement?
- Which growth experiments improve the product rather than merely inflate acquisition?
- When is a consumer company ready to expand internationally?
- How should advertising or other revenue models be introduced without damaging user experience?
- What organizational structure is needed as a product and its user base scale?
These are areas in which an experienced operator may offer more than capital. They are also reasonable inferences from the teams and responsibilities Greylock attributed to Andreou, rather than promises that every company he worked with would receive the same support.

Greylock said Andreou would focus on consumer platforms, social products, creator tools and AI-enabled consumer applications. The firm’s later call for startups also highlighted AI-enabled utilities for creative workflows and AI-enabled commerce or travel discovery.
The thesis reflected a broad view of consumer technology. It included not only social networks, but also products that help people create, discover, communicate, shop and participate in online communities.
Greylock positioned Andreou’s appointment alongside its history of investing in consumer companies. In its announcement, the firm cited companies including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Airbnb, Roblox, Coinbase, Discord and Nextdoor. That list is Greylock’s characterization of its investment history, not an independent ranking of those companies or a guarantee of future investment performance.

Andreou’s move illustrated a recurring path in technology: senior operating executives leaving large platforms to advise and fund early-stage companies. For venture firms, an operator can bring practical knowledge of product decisions that are difficult to capture in a pitch deck, including retention, distribution, monetization and team design.

For founders, the attraction is the possibility of working with someone who has dealt with the operational consequences of rapid consumer growth. The trade-off is that experience at a major social platform does not automatically transfer to every startup. Early companies operate with different resources, markets and constraints, and a framework that worked at Snap may require substantial adaptation elsewhere.
The timing was also significant. The announcement came in 2023, when generative AI was rapidly becoming a major area of consumer-product experimentation. Greylock’s emphasis on AI-enabled applications placed Andreou’s consumer background at the intersection of established social-product lessons and a new wave of AI products.
Where is Jacob Andreou now?
The 2023 Greylock appointment should be treated as a historical event, not as a current description of Andreou’s job. Later reporting says he left Greylock for Microsoft in 2025. He initially worked on Microsoft AI as a corporate vice president focused on product and growth.
In March 2026, Microsoft elevated him to executive vice president of Copilot, according to GeekWire. Other 2026 reporting described his responsibility as spanning a broader Copilot effort across consumer and commercial experiences, with additional context on the reorganization reported by Forbes.

The career arc
Andreou’s path moved through three distinct roles: building and scaling consumer products at Snap, investing in the next generation of consumer companies at Greylock, and later returning to an operating position at Microsoft.
The central significance of the 2023 announcement was the transfer of hands-on consumer-platform experience into venture capital. His later move to Microsoft shows that the Greylock chapter was not the final stage of his career, but it remains an important link between his work scaling Snapchat and his current leadership role in Copilot.
