Why finance leaders were gathering during Grand Prix week
The Singapore Grand Prix and its surrounding events serve as a global showcase for the city-state. Reuters reported that regional, business, cryptocurrency and sports leaders were expected in town for conferences and related gatherings around the race.
Among the expected participants named in the report were Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., investor Ray Dalio and Eric Trump, co-founder of World Liberty Financial. Trump was due to speak at TOKEN2049. These were advance expectations, not confirmation of who ultimately attended.
Attendance estimates also varied by event and source. TOKEN2049 organizers expected about 25,000 attendees, matching the prior year, while the Straits Times reported that about 90,000 senior executives were expected in Singapore. Neither figure was a final attendance count.

Haze was a concern, but there was no race-day forecast
Reuters reported that haze from Indonesian fires continued to shroud Singapore. On Monday, air quality was forecast to fall in the “high moderate to low unhealthy” range. That was a short-range outlook; the report provided no longer-range forecast for Sunday’s race, so it does not establish what conditions would be during the Grand Prix.
What the reported hotel and tourism figures mean
Race-week prices offered one example of the event’s effect on visitor costs. Reuters reported that the Fullerton Bay Hotel, beside the circuit, was charging S$5,030 (US$3,933) per night for a room that typically cost US$1,460. That is a quote for one hotel, not a citywide average or a measure of every visitor’s spending.

The figures are not interchangeable: one is an annual estimate attributed to official sources, while the other is a named economist’s expectation for 2026. Neither by itself measures the net financial return from hosting the Grand Prix.
Conference discussions included crypto and investor sentiment
The business backdrop was not uniformly upbeat. Reuters reported that cryptocurrency market value was down about one-quarter year over year to US$3 trillion, citing CoinGecko. That is a date-specific market measure, not a lasting benchmark.

Bond-price declines and more cautious sentiment toward artificial intelligence were also among the issues facing conference attendees. The Reuters account connected debate over a hoped-for U.S. regulatory framework to its failure to clear the Senate the previous month, and said President Donald Trump’s personal crypto dealings had become a flashpoint for Democrats. The report did not provide the legal or congressional detail needed to assess those issues more fully.

The Singapore Tourism Board described F1 and its surrounding events as having “strong momentum,” saying they reflected confidence despite economic and geopolitical uncertainty. The events’ ability to attract prominent participants and visitors was part of the city’s showcase; the economic estimates, however, remain estimates and expectations rather than a verified accounting of eventual gains.
