Slate Auto’s Truck No Longer Has an “Under $20,000” Price: What Buyers Pay Now

The Slate Truck’s under-$20,000 figure was tied to a federal EV tax credit. Slate now lists the Blank Slate at $24,950 plus a $1,450 destination charge.

No—the Slate Truck is not currently priced under $20,000. Slate’s current FAQ lists the Blank Slate at $24,950, plus a $1,450 destination charge. The earlier “under $20,000” figure depended on a federal EV tax credit; it was not a published sticker price before that credit.

Why Slate dropped the under-$20,000 claim

When Slate introduced its electric pickup in April 2025, the company promoted an expected price below $20,000 after applying the federal EV tax credit. TechCrunch reported on July 3, 2025, that Slate had stopped promoting that threshold after passage of the federal tax bill. The report said Slate had counted on a $7,500 credit to help the truck meet the advertised figure, and that the company had not given a precise starting price without it. TechCrunch’s July 2025 report is the source for that account.

The distinction matters: Slate did not simply raise a published sub-$20,000 MSRP. The earlier number was a tax-credit-dependent marketing threshold. The federal-policy change prompted Slate to stop promoting that claim; the company announced a vehicle price later.

Slate’s published price and the extra charge

Slate’s current FAQ lists the Blank Slate at $24,950, with a $1,450 destination charge. That makes the listed price plus destination $26,400 before any applicable taxes, registration, accessories, or other charges. It is not an out-the-door quote. Slate says the $300 preorder amount is credited toward the final purchase price. Slate’s FAQ lists the current price and preorder terms; its June 24, 2026 announcement also announced the $24,950 price. TechCrunch’s June 2026 coverage reported the same base amount and noted it excluded destination and other charges: TechCrunch’s price report.

Slate says first deliveries are slated for late 2026 in its FAQ. Its June 24, 2026 announcement describes first deliveries as expected in Q4 2026. These are company expectations, not confirmation that customer deliveries have begun.

What the announced vehicle includes

Slate describes a modular vehicle platform that begins as a two-seat pickup and can be delivered as or converted into a five-seat SUV. Its FAQ names the Squareback, Fastback, Open Air, and Cargo configurations, with additional accessories available through Slate’s Marketplace. The configuration and accessory choices matter to the budget: the $24,950 listed price should not be assumed to include every conversion or add-on.

The range, payload, and towing numbers are company projections or specifications, not independently measured results. For a purchase decision, compare the projected range with your routes and charging access, and verify final specifications, warranty coverage, and local repair availability in the documents and service information available when ordering. Charging: what Slate says is included

Slate says the truck uses a NACS charging port and includes a standard charging cable and a J1772 adapter. Its FAQ says owners can charge from a household outlet or a supported 240 V outlet; a wall-mounted charger is an optional convenience, not equipment Slate says every buyer must purchase. Slate names Treehouse as a partner for home-charger installation and electrical upgrades. Before buying separate equipment, assess your parking and electrical setup and confirm compatibility with Slate’s guidance. Slate’s FAQ describes the charging equipment and installation option.

How to evaluate the price as a buyer

  • Start with the full cost, not the old headline: include the $1,450 destination charge and then check taxes, registration, and any accessories or conversion parts you want.
  • Decide which configuration you need: the pickup and five-seat SUV forms serve different needs, and add-on costs can change the total.
  • Match capacity to your use: compare Slate’s projected range and stated payload and towing figures with your daily driving, cargo, and trailer needs; do not treat projections as test results.
  • Check delivery timing: late 2026/Q4 2026 is the company’s announced expectation, not an assured delivery date.
  • Plan charging around your home: Slate says a cable and adapter are included, while a wall-mounted unit and installation are optional considerations.

These distinctions also matter when comparing Slate with another vehicle: separate vehicle price from destination and other charges, projected range from independently tested range, included equipment from optional purchases, and announced delivery timing from vehicles currently available.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
