SK hynix’s Q4 2025 Profit Signals Strong Demand for AI Memory

SK hynix’s Q4 2025 record included ₩19.1696 trillion in operating profit. Its results point to demand for both HBM and conventional server memory, with AI’s role framed as the company’s explanation.

SK hynix reported record results for the quarter ended December 31, 2025: revenue of ₩32.8267 trillion, operating profit of ₩19.1696 trillion and net income of ₩15.2460 trillion. The company attributed the acceleration to demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and sharply higher demand for conventional server memory. The figures signal strong advanced-memory demand, but the company’s explanation of AI’s role is management’s account, not independent proof that AI alone drove earnings growth.

What did SK hynix report for Q4 2025?

In its January 28, 2026 release, SK hynix reported preliminary K-IFRS results for the quarter ended December 31, 2025. The company said the figures speak only as of the release date.

Measure Q4 2025 Change from Q3 2025 Change from Q4 2024
Revenue ₩32.8267 trillion +34% +66%
Operating profit ₩19.1696 trillion +68% +137%
Net income ₩15.2460 trillion +21% +90%
Operating margin 58% 47% in Q3 2025 41% in Q4 2024

These figures are from SK hynix’s FY25 financial results release. The 58% operating margin means operating profit amounted to 58% of revenue for the quarter; it is not the same measure as net margin.

Full-year scale

For 2025, SK hynix reported revenue of ₩97.1467 trillion, operating profit of ₩47.2063 trillion and net income of ₩42.9479 trillion. Compared with 2024, the company said those measures rose 47%, 101% and 117%, respectively. It credited the annual record to competitiveness in AI memory and a shift toward higher-value products, including HBM.

Why did SK hynix’s profit rise?

The company pointed to two related but distinct sources of demand: HBM used alongside AI accelerators, and conventional server memory. SK hynix said its HBM revenue more than doubled year on year in 2025 and that conventional server-memory demand increased sharply in Q4. That makes “advanced DRAM” broader than HBM alone.

HBM and conventional server DRAM serve different roles

HBM is high-bandwidth memory designed for close integration with processors such as AI accelerators, where moving large amounts of data quickly is important. Server DDR5, including registered DIMMs (RDIMMs), serves as a system’s main memory. Both can benefit from investment in AI infrastructure, but they are different products and do not compete as interchangeable parts.

SK hynix said it was supplying HBM3E and HBM4 simultaneously, with HBM4 mass production underway to meet customer requests. It also said it had begun full-scale mass production of 1cnm DRAM, its sixth generation of 10-nanometer-class technology, and was developing a 256GB DDR5 RDIMM based on 32Gb fifth-generation 10-nanometer-class (1b) DRAM. These are company-reported product and production developments, not independent comparisons of performance or manufacturing leadership.

Other products in the company’s AI-memory portfolio

SK hynix said it planned to expand its portfolio with SOCAMM2 and GDDR7, and to accelerate its transition to the 1cnm process. Those plans and status descriptions come from the company; the Q4 release does not establish how much each product contributed to the quarter’s earnings.

How did SK hynix connect demand to AI?

SK hynix said AI workloads were shifting from training toward inference and distributed architectures. In the company’s view, those changes would increase the importance of memory and sustain demand for HBM, server DRAM and NAND. This is management’s demand analysis and outlook, not evidence that AI was the sole cause of Q4 profit growth or a guarantee of future sales.

In the January release, Song Hyun Jong, President and Head of Corporate Center at SK hynix, said: “We will strengthen our role not merely as a product supplier, but as a core infrastructure partner in the AI era, enabling customers to meet their AI performance requirements.”

What changed after the Q4 announcement?

Later results show that the company’s reported AI-memory expansion continued, but those developments were not known when Q4 results were announced.

Quarter Revenue Operating profit What the company reported
Q3 2025, reported October 29, 2025 ₩24.4489 trillion ₩11.3834 trillion SK hynix cited HBM and high-performance server products, including 12-high HBM3E and server DDR5. Source
Q4 2025, reported January 28, 2026 ₩32.8267 trillion ₩19.1696 trillion SK hynix cited HBM and sharply higher conventional server-memory demand. Source
Q2 2026, reported July 29, 2026 ₩79.3187 trillion ₩60.5426 trillion SK hynix said expanding AI-infrastructure investment and high-performance memory sales supported its record. It reported HBM4 mass shipments beginning in Q2, with a second-half ramp planned, significantly higher SOCAMM2 sales, and 1cnm-based shipments beginning in earnest. Source

The Q2 2026 figures are preliminary company-reported results, and the release cautions that forward-looking statements involve risks. The company also described multi-year agreements with around ten customers. These later figures and product updates add context, but do not change what was available at the time of the Q4 announcement.

What the Q4 result does—and does not—show

  • It shows: SK hynix had a record quarter with rapid year-over-year and sequential growth in revenue and operating profit, alongside a 58% operating margin.
  • It supports: The company was seeing strong demand across HBM and conventional server memory, rather than HBM alone.
  • It does not establish: An independent measure of AI’s precise contribution to earnings, a vendor-to-vendor performance ranking, or a guaranteed path for future results. The demand explanation and outlook are SK hynix’s own statements.
