Siggi’s offered ten grand-prize winners $10,000 each to give up their smartphones for a month, according to a People report hosted by Yahoo and published January 19, 2024. The reported entry deadline was January 31, 2024, so this is historical contest coverage—not evidence that applications are open now or that the promotion has returned.
What the $10,000 phone-free challenge offered
The campaign was sponsored by siggi’s Dairy and framed as a “digital detox” connected to the yogurt brand’s simplicity philosophy. The report said ten winners would each receive $10,000, plus a smartphone lockbox, a replacement flip phone, a one-month prepaid SIM card and three months of yogurt. It said the challenge would begin after winners were announced on or around February 15, 2024.
Participation was described as honor-system based, a detail People attributed to a company representative. The report does not provide official contest rules or identify a lockbox or flip-phone model.
How people could enter—and when the contest closed
As reported in January 2024, entrants had to be at least 18 and submit an essay of 100–500 words. It had to explain why they needed a digital detox, how one could positively affect their life, and how the detox aligned with siggi’s brand philosophy. Essays were to be judged on coherence with the theme, creativity and original expression.

Why siggi’s said it was offering the challenge
People quoted Kristina Drociak, siggi’s director of PR and digital strategy, describing the campaign as an extension of the brand’s simplicity message: “Our brand ethos is all about stripping away the unnecessary, and just like fewer ingredients in yogurt, we believe fewer digital distractions can make for a more satisfying life,” she said.
The report also attributed to siggi’s the statement, “We believe in the power of living a simpler life with fewer distractions.” These are the company’s rationale for the promotion, not evidence that a month without a smartphone produces a particular health or financial outcome.
