Those developments may support a bullish market view, but they are separate: the buyback covers Siemens Energy shares, and the company has not said steam turbines alone are driving its wider performance or funding the program.
Is Siemens Energy selling its steam turbine business?
Not as a completed transaction established by the available announcements. The company’s investor page says preparations began on 25 August 2026 to make Transformation of Industry a standalone company. Reuters, in reporting carried by Euronext that same day, said Siemens Energy planned to sell most of the division. Those are distinct claims: the company confirms standalone preparations, while the sale plan is reported by Reuters.

The sources do not establish a completed sale, final terms, a buyer, a valuation or a timetable. Transformation of Industry is broader than steam turbines, so describing this as a confirmed sale of the steam-turbine business would overstate what is known.

How much is Siemens Energy buying back in shares?
Siemens Energy announced a third tranche of its share-buyback program of up to €2 billion. The company may acquire no more than 50 million shares under this tranche, which began on 24 September 2026 and is scheduled to end no later than 31 March 2027. The stated purposes are employee share programs and cancellation of acquired shares.
These are maximum limits, not a report of purchases already completed: the authorization does not mean Siemens Energy has spent €2 billion or acquired all 50 million shares. Siemens Energy’s announcement of the third tranche.

How does the tranche fit the wider shareholder-return plan?
In its Q2 FY2026 shareholder letter, Siemens Energy described an up-to-€6 billion buyback program through FY2028. The company said it expected up to €3 billion of buybacks in FY2026 and approximately €3.6 billion in total FY2026 shareholder returns when dividends are included. These are company expectations, not guaranteed payments or evidence that the full amounts have already been returned.

What is driving Siemens Energy’s operating momentum?
Steam turbines are part of Siemens Energy’s portfolio, but the company’s Q1 FY2026 release pointed to gas turbines and grid technologies as significant contributors to performance. CEO Christian Bruch said: “We have made a very strong start to the financial year. Sustained high demand in our gas turbines and grid technologies businesses is making a significant contribution to overall performance. Also in the wind business, there are early signs of a modest improvement.” His comments describe those businesses, not steam turbines specifically.
That distinction matters when interpreting the headline’s “bulls in control” thesis. Broad demand commentary and a sizable buyback can bolster investor sentiment, but neither establishes that steam turbines are the cause of group-wide momentum. Nor does a buyback, by itself, show that a share is attractively valued. Siemens Energy Q1 FY2026 release.
