There is no universal price winner among ShipStation, Pirate Ship and Rollo Ship. The right fit depends on your shipment lanes, monthly label volume and the time you need the software to save on order handling. Compare postage for the same packages and destinations, then add each service’s subscription or per-label fees. “Free” software does not mean free postage.

How fees work—and what they do not tell you about postage
ShipStation: monthly plan pricing
ShipStation’s cited Canada pricing page lists Starter at $14.99/month, Standard at $29.99/month and Premium at $349.99/month. The plans differ in features, so the lowest subscription may not include the workflow tools you need. These figures are specific to the cited regional page, accessed October 8, 2026. Check ShipStation’s pricing page for current regional terms.
Pirate Ship: no software fee, but labels still cost money
Pirate Ship says it charges no markups, fees or minimums for its software; customers pay for labels. Its June 7, 2026 pricing explanation describes USPS Commercial Pricing and discounted UPS rates. That fee model does not establish what a particular shipment will cost. See Pirate Ship’s cost explanation.

Rollo Ship: free service-fee allowance, then tiered fees
Rollo Support says the first 200 labels carry a $0 service fee. After that allowance, its stated per-label fees are 5¢ at Newbie or Basic, 3¢ at Pro, 2¢ at Expert and 1¢ at VIP. Carrier postage remains payable separately, and Rollo says labels use a funded wallet. These terms are from a support page modified August 31, 2026. Check Rollo’s current fee details.
Rollo Support describes the distinction plainly: “Rollo Ship is not a carrier.” Its software fee, like the other services’ software charges, is not the same thing as the carrier’s postage.
Which service may fit your business?
Consider ShipStation if your workflow needs more structure
ShipStation may suit a seller handling orders across channels who can make use of plan-dependent imports, automations, returns, order combine or split, API access, or broader carrier access. The trade-off is a monthly plan fee and the need to check which capabilities are included at your chosen plan and in your region.

Consider Pirate Ship if you mainly need a straightforward USPS or UPS label workflow
Pirate Ship may be worth evaluating if its USPS and UPS focus fits your lanes and avoiding a software subscription is a priority. The cited pricing information alone does not establish whether its order-import workflow meets your needs, so verify your storefront connection and daily fulfillment process before committing.
Consider Rollo Ship if US–Canada shipping or its channel setup matches your operation
Rollo Ship may fit sellers shipping from the US or Canada who want its documented carrier options or mobile-app workflow. Check the fee that would apply after the first 200 labels, whether your desired carrier account is supported, and whether your sales channel is a direct integration rather than merely printer-compatible.
Compare real shipment costs before choosing
Advertised discounts and software fees do not reveal which service will be cheapest for your actual shipments. No directly comparable, independently tested shipment-price statistic is established here. Build a like-for-like comparison using your own package mix.

- Choose representative shipments. Record package weight and dimensions, origin postal code, destination, required delivery speed, insurance needs and monthly label volume. Include both domestic and cross-border shipments if you send to both.
- Get quotes for the same shipment details. Compare only services that support the origin, destination and required carrier or service. Keep package measurements, delivery speed and insurance consistent.
- Add software costs. Include ShipStation’s applicable monthly plan fee or Rollo Ship’s applicable per-label service fee. Pirate Ship says its software has no markup, fee or minimum, but the label itself still costs money.
- Repeat across your shipment mix. One package or destination cannot establish a reliable overall winner. Compare enough of your common lanes and package types to reflect your actual volume.
Do not treat an “up to” carrier discount as proof that a platform offers the lowest price for your shipment. The final comparison is the full cost for a matching package, service speed and destination, plus the software charge that applies to your use.

A cheaper label can cost more in staff time if it leaves order handling manual. Before moving a store or changing fulfillment tools, verify the specific capabilities your operation depends on:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Direct connection to each storefront or marketplace, and how orders are imported.
- Batch processing and the number of users your team needs.
- Automation rules, returns handling and tracking updates.
- API access and whether it is included in the plan or service you would use.
- Carrier accounts, including whether a carrier requires your own account.
- Plan limits, regional availability and any fees that apply at your label volume.
ShipStation’s published comparison makes several capabilities plan-dependent. Rollo explicitly distinguishes direct integrations from platforms that are compatible only with printers. For Pirate Ship, verify your exact storefront workflow against its current documentation rather than assuming the pricing page establishes integration coverage.

Do you need a Rollo printer?
No. Rollo says Rollo Ship works with compatible printers and does not require a Rollo-branded device. A compatible thermal label printer may be useful if you print many labels, but it is an optional equipment decision—not an eligibility condition for choosing among these platforms.
Rollo’s official product information also lists hardware such as the X1040, but product availability and claims come from the publisher and are not independent performance tests. See Rollo’s official product information.
