Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners LLC completed the purchase of Sheffield Wednesday in May 2026. The EFL said on 2 May that the administrators had formally concluded an agreement with the consortium, led by David Storch and including Michael Storch and Tom Costin. It also confirmed the club had met league requirements and was no longer in administration. EFL statement

BTG, the joint administrators, announced completion on 5 May. Earlier, on 10 March, the club had named Arise its preferred bidder after the previous preferred bidder withdrew. The club identified David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as the consortium’s members, saying it had received a substantial deposit and evidence of funds and that Arise’s proposal was the strongest in the renewed process. What the EFL said about the club’s position
The EFL chose not to impose the prospective 15-point deduction after the club exited administration. Its May statement also said budget restrictions would apply for the next two seasons and that player registrations had to follow an agreed business plan. Those were conditions announced at the time; they should not be read as a description of the club’s current finances.

Why is Gareth Bale linked to David Storch?
The link is an earlier attempt to buy Cardiff City, not a role in Sheffield Wednesday’s ownership. In a BBC interview published on 24 December 2025, Storch said he had submitted an offer team with Bale and reached agreement with Cardiff owner Vincent Tan, but Tan decided to keep the club and the transaction never completed. BBC Sport had separately reported in June 2025 that Bale was part of a group that approached Tan with a proposal for a controlling share in Cardiff. The offer was rejected and did not reach the Cardiff boardroom. BBC Sport report

Storch’s account describes the earlier pursuit, but the available reporting does not establish how much Bale personally invested, if anything, or identify every participant in the proposed group. It also does not make Bale a Wednesday owner or investor.

Describing the Cardiff attempt to BBC Sport in December 2025, Storch said: “Then we submitted an offer team with Gareth Bale to buy Cardiff City and actually reached agreement with Vincent Tan to purchase the club. Unfortunately, he decided to hold on and we never got that transaction complete.” This is Storch’s account of a deal that did not complete.

In the administrators’ completion notice, Storch said on behalf of Arise Capital Partners LLC: “Sheffield Wednesday deserves stability, ambition and a clear direction. That is what we are here to deliver.” It is an ownership statement, not independent evidence of what the club’s future results will be.
