Dejphon Chansiri no longer owns Sheffield Wednesday. The EFL confirmed on 2 May 2026 that administrators had agreed to transfer the club’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC, led by David Storch with Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The club left administration under new ownership, ending the sale question that supporters had been raising while Chansiri was in charge.
Who owns Sheffield Wednesday now?
Arise Capital Partners LLC took over Sheffield Wednesday through an agreement with the club’s administrators, Begbies Traynor Group (BTG). The EFL’s 2 May 2026 announcement described the deal as a transfer of the club’s assets and confirmed that Wednesday was no longer in administration. BBC Sport reported the same day that Arise had bought the club and that the transaction ended Chansiri’s ownership.
The distinction in wording reflects the sources’ descriptions of the transaction: the EFL referred to an asset transfer, while BBC Sport called it a purchase. Both report that Wednesday moved under new ownership. The announcement identifies David Storch as the consortium’s lead, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin; it does not establish what the new owners plan to do or how the club will perform.
Why were supporters calling for Chansiri to sell?
By August 2025, supporters were calling for Chansiri to sell. In a BBC Sport report published on 25 August, Rob Staton said he did not think Chansiri wanted to sell, while acknowledging uncertainty. That was a snapshot of the situation at the time—not evidence of Chansiri’s intentions after the club entered administration or of an unresolved sale after May 2026.

The crisis subsequently moved beyond speculation about a sale. The EFL’s disciplinary decision records admitted breaches involving late player wages, transfer-fee and loan-related defaults, an HMRC PAYE liability, and delayed wages for non-playing staff. It also records further defaults and late player payments before administration. Those matters were addressed in disciplinary proceedings; they should not be confused with the separate points deduction triggered by the later administration notice.
What happened to Sheffield Wednesday?
- 24 October 2025: The EFL said it had received notice that administrators had been appointed to the club and the company that owns Hillsborough. The notice triggered an automatic 12-point deduction.
- 22 February 2026: A defeat at Sheffield United confirmed Wednesday’s relegation to League One with 13 league matches remaining, according to BBC Sport.
- 2 May 2026: The EFL confirmed the agreement to transfer the club’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC and said Wednesday was no longer in administration. BBC Sport reported that the deal ended Chansiri’s ownership.
- 5 May 2026: The EFL’s governance guidance says the Independent Football Regulator’s Owners’ and Directors’ Source of Wealth (ODSE) regime began.
What happened to the points deductions?
There are two separate administration-related points decisions to distinguish. The EFL confirmed a 12-point deduction after it received notice of the October 2025 administration appointments. After Wednesday exited administration under new ownership in May 2026, the EFL said it would not impose a further 15-point deduction. The decision not to impose that additional penalty did not undo the earlier 12-point deduction or erase the separate disciplinary matters recorded by the EFL.

How is a football takeover regulated?
The EFL says acquisitions of control must meet both its requirements and those of the Independent Football Regulator. Its guidance states that the IFR’s ODSE regime started on 5 May 2026. That regulatory framework is relevant to acquisitions of control generally; the EFL’s announcement confirms Wednesday’s completed transfer but does not provide a detailed account of the approval process or the new owners’ future plans.
