Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover is complete, but the evidence reviewed does not support the claim that John Textor was plotting a bid. The EFL said on 2 May 2026 that the club had transferred to Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch; administrator BTG confirmed the sale on 5 May. The deal ended Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership, took the club out of administration and led the EFL to waive a proposed 15-point administration-exit deduction.
Is John Textor buying Sheffield Wednesday?
The reviewed current sources do not connect John Textor to Sheffield Wednesday’s completed takeover. That does not establish whether he ever privately considered a bid, but it does mean the headline claim that he was plotting one is not substantiated by the available evidence. The club’s administrator and the EFL named Arise Capital Partners LLC as the buyer.
Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch with Michael Storch and Tom Costin, acquired the club’s assets. On 2 May 2026 the EFL announced that the administrators had concluded an agreement with Arise and that the club was under new ownership. BTG, the administrator, confirmed the sale’s completion on 5 May.
Storch said on behalf of Arise: “Sheffield Wednesday deserves stability, ambition and a clear direction. That is what we are here to deliver.” This is the buyer’s stated intention, not a verified forecast of the club’s future.

What happened to Dejphon Chansiri?
The sale ended Chansiri’s ownership of Sheffield Wednesday. BBC Sport reported that he also received a three-year ban from owning or directing an EFL club. The takeover resolved the ownership question through a completed transaction, rather than a prospective Textor bid.
Why did Sheffield Wednesday avoid a 15-point deduction?
Before the sale, the EFL had contemplated a 15-point deduction when the club exited administration. After the transaction, the league said Sheffield Wednesday had met the relevant requirements and was no longer considered in administration. It exercised discretion under its Insolvency Policy not to impose that administration-exit penalty. BTG said the club would begin the upcoming season on zero points.

The proposed 15-point sanction was separate from earlier deductions. BBC Sport reported an immediate 12-point deduction when the club entered administration on 24 October 2025, followed by another six points for payment breaches involving players, staff, HMRC and transfer fees. The EFL’s decision not to apply the administration-exit deduction did not erase those earlier sanctions.
The pre-sale creditor-return dispute
In an April 15, 2026 report, BBC Sport said Arise’s reported £20 million offer represented about 6p per pound for unsecured creditors, while 25p per pound was then cited as the threshold for avoiding the proposed deduction. Those were figures reported during the process, not final transaction terms. Storch said the consortium disagreed with the planned sanction and that a substantial part of the debt was held by Chansiri, who had not agreed to write it down or restructure it. Those were Storch’s statements; the EFL’s subsequent decision was to waive the administration-exit deduction.

Is Sheffield Wednesday still in administration?
No. The EFL’s 2 May statement said the club had met league requirements and was no longer considered in administration. BTG’s 5 May notice described the sale as completed. Companies House’s filing history for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited lists an administrator’s proposal filed on 5 March 2026, a progress report on 2 June, a creditors’ meeting result on 16 July, and an administration-period extension filed on 30 August. Those filings are dates in the company’s record; they do not by themselves establish the status of every company or property associated with the club.

BBC Sport reported that Sheffield Wednesday would remain subject to budget restrictions for two seasons but could still sign new players. That means the completed sale did not remove all constraints on the club’s spending, even though it brought the administration to an end.
