Textor had been linked to possible interest earlier, but the official completion announcements do not identify him as a buyer or part of the deal.
Who took over Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners LLC acquired Sheffield Wednesday. The consortium was led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. On 2 May 2026, the EFL said the administrators had concluded an agreement with Arise for the transfer of the club’s assets. On 5 May, BTG, acting as joint administrators, confirmed the sale had completed.
The dates mark different stages: the EFL announced the agreement and the club’s exit from administration on 2 May; the administrators confirmed successful completion on 5 May. The EFL’s 2 May statement and BTG’s completion announcement identify Arise, not Textor, as the buyer.
Did John Textor buy Sheffield Wednesday?
The completed-sale announcements reviewed do not name Textor as the buyer or as a member of the completed consortium. Earlier coverage reported possible interest, but that is not evidence that he bought the club. BBC reporting on the earlier interest is historical context, not confirmation of a completed transaction.

So the distinction is between reported interest and ownership: the official record establishes Arise’s completed takeover. It does not establish a later Textor bid, stake, agreement or role.
What happened during the sale process?
Arise was selected as preferred bidder
On 10 March 2026, the joint administrators named Arise as preferred bidder. They said the group had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds, and that an exclusivity agreement was in place. The administrators described Arise’s proposal as the strongest received in the renewed process, but said it was below the amount needed to pay creditors 25 pence in the pound. The administrators’ March update records this preferred-bidder stage; it is not the completion announcement.

The agreement and sale followed in May
The EFL announced on 2 May that the agreement to transfer the club’s assets had been concluded and that the club had met the relevant league requirements and was no longer regarded as being in administration. The administrators confirmed completion three days later.

In its 2026 announcement, the EFL said it would not impose a 15-point deduction on Sheffield Wednesday following the club’s exit from administration. It also announced a budget restriction for the next two seasons: new player registrations were to comply with a business plan agreed by the new owners and the EFL. The EFL statement sets out those regulatory conditions.

The points decision and the administrators’ creditor-payment assessment are separate matters. The decision not to apply a 15-point deduction does not mean the sale met the 25-pence-in-the-pound threshold the administrators said Arise’s offer fell short of.
