Later coverage instead documents a dispute involving Tom Page, missed acquisition instalments and a court order against the company used for the takeover. Those developments do not establish what the earlier obstacle was or show that it was resolved.
What is the Sheffield United takeover obstacle?
The available reports do not identify the particular obstacle referred to in the headline or confirm that it was close to being solved. It would therefore be misleading to present that claim as a settled update. The later events give context to the club’s ownership and acquisition, but they do not explain the original obstacle.
What is the Tom Page update?
Bloomberg Law reported on March 6, 2026, that Tom Page sued Sheffield United owners Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy in Delaware. The report says Page’s lawsuit alleges that he and another partner were excluded from the consortium that acquired the club in 2024. That is an allegation made in litigation, not a court finding that the exclusion occurred or that fraud took place.
The available reporting does not establish the outcome of the case. The Analysis Series’ September 28, 2026, account says it did not review the Delaware court docket, so it cannot be used to claim that the lawsuit has been resolved.

What happened to the acquisition company?
A September 28, 2026, analysis by Paul Quinn for The Analysis Series describes a separate sequence of corporate and court events concerning the acquisition vehicle, COH Sports Bidco Limited. Its account covers events through September 25, 2026:
- December 23, 2024: Sheffield United was sold by Prince Abdullah’s United World group to a consortium led by Rosen and Eltoukhy. The Analysis Series describes the reported price as approximately £100–111 million, partly payable in instalments. That range is the analysis’s account of a reported price, not an independently verified sale figure here.
- June 2026: According to The Analysis Series, the club was placed beneath 1919 Partners LLC in the ownership structure.
- August 19, 2026: The Analysis Series reports that the High Court made a compulsory winding-up order against COH Sports Bidco Limited. It says the winding-up petition concerned more than £35 million including interest.
The order reported against COH Sports Bidco Limited is a court event concerning that company. It is not, by itself, evidence that the earlier headline’s unspecified obstacle was solved, nor does the cited reporting establish that the order was made against Sheffield United Football Club.

What is confirmed, alleged or still unknown?
| Issue | What the reporting says | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Tom Page’s role in the 2024 acquisition | Page’s lawsuit alleges that he and another partner were excluded from the acquisition consortium; Bloomberg Law reported this on March 6, 2026. | Party allegation in litigation, not a court finding. |
| COH Sports Bidco Limited | The Analysis Series reports missed instalments falling due in 2026 and a compulsory winding-up order against the company on August 19, 2026. | Reported corporate and court events; the article does not establish that they resolved the earlier, unidentified obstacle. |
| The “obstacle” in the headline | The available reports do not identify it or verify that it was nearly resolved. | Unconfirmed. |
What do the club’s reported financial figures show?
The Analysis Series says Sheffield United’s FY2024/25 audited accounts disclosed an interest-free £11 million loan from COH Sports Bidco Limited. It also reports that the club’s accounts showed net current liabilities of £51.4 million and cash of £2.8 million as of June 30, 2025. Those figures refer to the stated accounting date; they should not be read as current balances or as proof, on their own, of the club’s present financial position.
The Analysis Series is a later analysis and synthesis of events, not a substitute for the underlying court records or accounts. Its figures and chronology are attributed here to that report.

Has the takeover issue been resolved?
There is no supported basis in these reports to say that the specific issue described as “close to being solved” has been resolved. The later reporting instead documents a Delaware lawsuit whose allegations remain distinct from court findings, and a winding-up order against the acquisition vehicle. Without evidence identifying the original obstacle or establishing its outcome, the headline’s resolution claim remains unverified.
