SGT Markets Review: Scam or Legit Forex Broker?

SGT Markets is tied to an active BVI company and appears on the BVI FSC’s regulated list, but its offshore status and withdrawal-related complaints create significant risks.

SGT Markets is connected to a real company and appears on the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission (BVI FSC) list of currently regulated entities. That answers one question: it does not look like a completely fabricated broker.

It does not answer the more important question of whether it is a suitable place for your money. SGT Markets is an offshore broker, its published account minimums are relatively high, and public complaints allege that customers were asked for additional payments before withdrawals could be completed. Those allegations are not independently proven, but they are serious enough that cautious traders should not treat SGT Markets as a low-risk broker.

Our assessment: SGT Markets appears to be a real, BVI-regulated broker, but it carries meaningful regulatory and withdrawal risks. Calling it definitively a scam would go beyond the verified evidence. Calling it strongly protected or comparable with an FCA-, ASIC- or CFTC-regulated broker would also be inaccurate.

Is SGT Markets a scam or legitimate?

SGT Markets appears to be a legitimate operating business with offshore regulatory authorization, but it is a high-risk broker for retail customers.

The company behind the brand is Sterling Gent Trading Ltd., a BVI company incorporated on March 13, 2006, under company number 1015394. Its legal address is Craigmuir Chambers, c/o Harneys Corporate Services Limited, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The company is listed as active in its Legal Entity Identifier record.

The BVI FSC’s regulated-entity listing identifies Sterling Gent Trading Ltd. as a currently regulated entity under the category “Dealing as Principal.” SGT gives its licence number as SIBA/L/11/0987.

That is evidence of a real company and a real BVI regulatory listing. It is not evidence that SGT offers the same protections as a top-tier retail broker. The verified licence is from the BVI FSC—not the UK FCA, Australian ASIC, Cyprus CySEC, or the U.S. CFTC and NFA.

Who owns and operates SGT Markets?

SGT Markets says its main brands and websites include:

  • sgt.markets
  • sgtmarkets.com
  • sgt.ltd
  • trademakers.com

The company warns customers about impersonation websites and says that other domains may not belong to it. Before opening an account, check the domain carefully and confirm payment instructions through the official website. A similarly named website is not automatically affiliated with Sterling Gent Trading Ltd.

What does the BVI licence mean?

The BVI FSC regulates securities and investment business conducted in or from the British Virgin Islands under the Securities and Investment Business Act, 2010. SGT’s stated permission is to deal in investments as principal.

The licence matters because it means SGT is not simply claiming regulation without appearing in the regulator’s public register. However, offshore regulation should not be confused with the protections attached to major retail regimes.

The BVI FSC’s 2024 annual report describes the BVI investment-business sector as operating with a “light touch” regulatory approach in certain areas, including simpler reporting requirements and exemptions. That does not make the licence fake. It does mean that a BVI licence alone should not be treated as a guarantee of compensation, segregated funds, or recovery if a broker or counterparty fails.

SGT’s own trader/investor agreement also says that client funds may be pooled with money held at counterparties or liquidity providers. If a counterparty or liquidity provider defaults, the agreement says clients may share proportionately in a shortfall. That is materially different from promising that every client balance is individually protected from all failures.

Is SGT Markets available in the United States?

No. SGT’s deposit and investing pages state that its services are not offered in the United States or to U.S. citizens.

U.S. retail forex customers should generally verify a broker through the CFTC and the NFA’s BASIC database before depositing. If someone in the United States solicits you using the SGT Markets name, that conflicts with SGT’s published eligibility statement. Do not send money until you have independently confirmed who is contacting you and whether the offer is authorized.

SGT Markets account types and minimum deposits

SGT’s current account page lists four account categories:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Account Minimum deposit Pricing Platform
Direct $5,000 Spreads from 1 pip; fees included in the spread MT4
Prime $5,000 From $6 per lot, round turn MT4
Professional $50,000 Spreads from 0 pips; bespoke commission MT4 and MT5
Business Not stated Raw spreads; bespoke setup MT4 and MT5

SGT lists leverage starting from 100:1, while crypto leverage is listed as 5:1.

There is an important inconsistency in the website. Its bank-transfer instructions mention a general minimum of $500, £500 or €500, while the account-types page lists $5,000 for Direct and Prime accounts. The Professional account requires $50,000.

Do not assume that the $500 figure is the amount required to open every currently advertised account. Ask SGT to explain the difference in writing before funding an account, including which account type you will receive and whether additional funds will be required later.

Trading platforms and available markets

SGT currently advertises both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. Older broker directories that describe SGT as MT4-only are out of date.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • MT4: available on desktop and mobile; SGT describes it as hedging-only.
  • MT5: available on desktop, mobile and browser; supports hedging and netting.
  • MT5 features: depth of market, an economic calendar and additional timeframes.

The platforms list forex, spot metals, energy CFDs, equity-index CFDs and cryptocurrency CFDs. These are leveraged derivatives, not direct ownership of the underlying currencies, shares or digital assets.

Deposits: methods, limits and fees

Bank transfer

SGT says bank transfers are accepted in all currencies, with no SGT deposit fee and typical processing within 24 hours. Its instructions mention a minimum of $500, £500 or €500, and say that deposits above $50,000 may require alternative bank-wire instructions. The company may request source-of-funds documents and says it does not accept deposits from unregulated third parties.

Cards

The published card minimum is 100 USD, EUR or GBP equivalent. SGT’s withdrawal page says it accepts MasterCard for withdrawals, although card availability and processing can depend on the payment provider.

Cryptocurrency

SGT requires crypto deposit wallets to be whitelisted before funds are sent. The wallet must be owned solely by the client or held by a regulated custodian. SGT says it does not accept funds from centralized-exchange custodial wallets.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The stated crypto minimum is 100 USD, EUR or GBP equivalent, with a maximum of 250,000 per transaction. Crypto is converted into the account’s base currency, and SGT lists a 2% conversion fee.

Withdrawals and the main warning signs

SGT’s stated withdrawal policy says customers can request a withdrawal at any time, subject to sufficient balance, margin deductions, account verification and returning money to the original funding source.

Method Published fee Stated processing Limit
Credit/debit card None Up to 72 hours; card statement may take up to 14 business days Maximum $20,000 / £20,000 / €20,000
Bank transfer €25, $40 or £30 Up to 72 hours; typically returned within 24 hours No separate maximum stated
Perfect Money None Up to 72 hours; typically returned within 24 hours Maximum $20,000 / £20,000 / €20,000

Identity checks and returning funds to the original payment method are normal anti-money-laundering controls. They are not, by themselves, evidence of fraud.

The serious issue is what happens if a broker or person claiming to represent it asks you to pay more money before releasing an existing balance. Demands for any of the following are major advance-fee warning signs:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • depositing more money to reach “VIP” status;
  • paying a tax or profit fee in advance;
  • funding an external wallet for a security check;
  • paying a security deposit to unlock a withdrawal; or
  • making a further deposit after supposedly passing an account review.

SGT’s published withdrawal page does not say that customers must reach VIP status, pay a 10% advance profit fee, fund an external wallet for an “85%” security check, or make a security deposit.

A March 2026 Forex Peace Army complaint alleges that a customer was asked for several such payments. This is an unverified customer allegation, not a regulatory finding or independently proven fact. It should nevertheless be treated seriously. If you are asked for an additional withdrawal-enabling payment, do not send it.

Some third-party pages also quote a $65 international-wire fee or a crypto withdrawal charge of 1% plus $25. Those figures are not shown on SGT’s current withdrawal page, which lists bank-transfer charges of €25, $40 and £30. Confirm any fee in the client portal or a current official fee schedule before relying on a third-party figure.

KYC and account verification

SGT says verification is required before trading or investing. Its process requires:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. a passport, driving licence or other government-issued identity document;
  2. a facial scan through its KYC software; and
  3. a utility bill or similar proof of address issued within the previous three months.

Both identity and address documents must be provided before verification begins. These requirements are common for regulated financial businesses. They become suspicious if someone says your documents are acceptable only after you deposit more money.

Execution, leverage and counterparty risks

SGT’s execution policy warns that slippage can occur during volatile markets or major news events. It also says orders may be rejected when liquidity, volume or market conditions prevent the liquidity pool from filling a market or pending order.

Its risk disclosure says positions may be liquidated without notice if a customer does not provide additional funds when requested or fails to maintain sufficient usable margin. That is a standard risk of leveraged trading, but it can produce losses quickly—especially with leverage starting from 100:1.

CFDs and leveraged forex positions can lose money rapidly. Before trading, confirm the margin-call level, stop-out level, maximum position size, overnight financing charges, spread during news events and whether negative-balance protection applies to your account.

What do public reviews say?

Public feedback is predominantly negative in the sources reviewed, with complaints focused on withdrawals and customer-service responsiveness. Trustpilot’s SGT Markets profile showed nine reviews in one current regional listing, including complaints about unfulfilled withdrawals.

Review websites are useful for identifying patterns and questions to investigate, but they are not proof that every complaint is genuine or that every allegation is correct. Conversely, a real company registration does not disprove a customer’s individual experience.

The careful conclusion is that withdrawal complaints exist and deserve attention, while the available sources do not establish that SGT systematically blocks all withdrawals or operates a proven fraud scheme.

How to check SGT Markets before depositing

  1. Verify the legal entity. Check that documents identify Sterling Gent Trading Ltd., not an unrelated company.
  2. Check the regulator listing. Use the BVI FSC register and confirm the entity name and “Dealing as Principal” status.
  3. Use only official domains. Be cautious with links sent through messaging apps, social media or unsolicited email.
  4. Resolve the minimum-deposit conflict. Ask why the bank-transfer page says $500 while Direct and Prime accounts show $5,000.
  5. Request the fee schedule. Get withdrawal charges, margin terms, financing costs and any account conditions in writing.
  6. Test a small withdrawal early. Do not wait until a large balance has accumulated. A successful small withdrawal does not eliminate all risk, but it can expose procedural problems sooner.
  7. Never pay to unlock your own money. Stop communicating through the person demanding the payment and contact SGT through a verified official channel.
  8. Preserve evidence. Save account statements, wallet addresses, emails, chat logs, invoices and payment confirmations if a withdrawal problem occurs.

Final verdict

SGT Markets is not best described as an obvious fake broker. Sterling Gent Trading Ltd. is an active BVI company, and the BVI FSC currently lists it as regulated for dealing as principal.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

But the broker is not equivalent to an FCA-, ASIC- or CFTC/NFA-authorized retail forex dealer. The offshore structure, high stated account minimums, inconsistent deposit information and public withdrawal allegations create a risk profile that conservative traders should take seriously.

Our classification: a real offshore-regulated broker with significant investor-protection limitations and material withdrawal-related red flags. Most importantly, never make an additional payment to release an existing balance. Treat any request for a VIP deposit, advance tax, profit fee, security deposit or external-wallet payment as a reason to stop and independently verify the situation.

FAQ

Is SGT Markets regulated?

Yes. Sterling Gent Trading Ltd., the company behind SGT Markets, appears on the BVI FSC’s current regulated-entities list as a “Dealing as Principal” entity. This is offshore regulation and is not the same as FCA, ASIC, CySEC, CFTC or NFA authorization.

Is SGT Markets available to U.S. residents?

No. SGT’s own website says its services are not offered in the United States or to U.S. citizens. Anyone soliciting U.S. residents in SGT’s name should be independently verified.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is SGT Markets’ minimum deposit?

SGT’s current account page lists $5,000 for Direct and Prime accounts and $50,000 for Professional accounts. Its bank-transfer page separately mentions a generic $500 minimum, so prospective customers should obtain written clarification before depositing.

Does SGT Markets offer MT4 or MT5?

SGT currently advertises both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. Older websites describing the broker as MT4-only are outdated.

Does SGT Markets charge a withdrawal fee?

SGT’s published withdrawal page lists bank-transfer fees of €25, $40 or £30, with no stated fee for cards or Perfect Money. Fees can change, so confirm the current charge in the client portal or official fee schedule.

Should I pay an extra fee to withdraw from SGT Markets?

No. A demand for a new deposit, VIP payment, advance tax, profit fee, security deposit or external-wallet funding to release existing funds is a major advance-fee warning sign. SGT’s published withdrawal policy does not list those requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is SGT Markets a safe broker?

It has a real company and BVI regulatory listing, but that does not make it a low-risk broker. Offshore investor protections, possible counterparty shortfalls and public withdrawal complaints mean cautious traders should consider better-protected alternatives.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: SGT Markets appears to be a real BVI-regulated broker, not an obviously fictitious operation. However, its offshore status, limited investor protections, conflicting deposit information and serious unverified withdrawal allegations make it a high-risk choice. Never send additional money to unlock a withdrawal.
