An anonymous shopper paid off 20 families’ lay-by payment plans at Kmart Warwick in Perth’s northern suburbs, according to a PerthNow report published on 19 December 2024. A recipient thanked the shopper in a local community Facebook group. The report does not disclose the amount paid or what the plans covered.
What happened at Warwick Kmart?
PerthNow reported that an anonymous shopper paid the lay-by plans on a Tuesday about a week before Christmas 2024. The story, by Erick Lopez, was published at 2:00 a.m. on 19 December 2024. It does not state the exact date of that Tuesday.

The recipient posted a message on the Greenwood/Kingsley/Warwick Community Page, which PerthNow described as having more than 20,000 members. The article reported that the post had received more than 1,000 reactions and over 100 comments; those are figures attributed to PerthNow, not independently verified measurements.
What did the recipient say?
PerthNow reproduced a post attributed to a recipient who was not named: “To the anonymous gentleman who went into Warwick Kmart today and paid off lay-bys for 20 families … thankyou so much for your kindness and generosity,” the post read.

The post continued: “You have shown the true spirit of Christmas. I wish you a joyful Christmas and a wonderful new year. Thankyou just doesn’t seem enough. You are a true gentleman.” These are the recipient’s reported words, not a direct interview with the shopper.
What is not known about the gesture?
- The shopper’s identity and motive were not disclosed.
- The report does not say how the 20 plans were selected, what items they contained, or how much was paid, either in total or per family.
- It does not say whether Kmart coordinated the gesture.
- PerthNow did not link the original community-page post for direct verification.
The account is therefore a local human-interest report about an anonymous act of help, not a detailed account of the families’ finances or the value of the assistance.
