Yes. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on December 22, 2025, that it would be closed on Thursday, December 25, for Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas, which the Government of Pakistan declared public holidays.

What SBP announced

In its December 22, 2025, public-holiday notice, SBP said it “will remain closed on December 25, 2025 (Thursday)” for the occasions of Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas. The notice confirms the closure of SBP itself.

Why December 25 is a holiday

The Cabinet Division’s 2025 holiday circular, dated December 23, 2024, lists December 25 as “Quaid-e-Azam Day/Christmas.” SBP’s notice says the public holiday was declared by the Government of Pakistan.

Does the notice mean every bank or banking service is closed?

Not by itself. The SBP notice specifically states that SBP will close; it does not give the operating status of each commercial bank, branch, ATM, online-banking service, or payment rail. The Cabinet Division circular says that on designated bank holidays, banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) remain closed to the public, but not for employees. That general note is not a detailed service-by-service account for December 25.

For a particular bank branch or channel, check that bank’s own notice rather than assuming its availability from SBP’s announcement.

What the 2026 calendar says

The Pakistan Stock Exchange’s 2026 holiday calendar lists Friday, December 25, 2026, as Quaid-e-Azam Day/Christmas. That calendar entry is not an SBP notice confirming its 2026 operating status. For later SBP announcements, consult the SBP circular index.
