State Bank of India’s 2025 recruitment for Manager and Deputy Manager (Data Scientist) is closed. The online application and fee-payment window ran from February 1 to February 24, 2025. SBI advertised 42 regular-basis vacancies under Advertisement No. CRPD/SCO/2024-25/27; this is a retrospective notice, not an open application opportunity. See SBI’s careers page for current openings and updates.
What SBI advertised
The notice covered two Specialist Cadre Officer roles on a regular basis. SBI described Mumbai as the suggested location, while reserving the right to transfer officers or assign them elsewhere according to service needs. The vacancy totals were provisional and could change based on the bank’s requirements.
| Post | Grade | Vacancies | Age range as of July 31, 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manager (Data Scientist) | MMGS-III | 13 | 26–36 years |
| Deputy Manager (Data Scientist) | MMGS-II | 29 | 24–32 years |
Age relaxation was available under applicable government guidelines. These figures and terms come from SBI’s official recruitment advertisement.
Eligibility: education and experience
Education
For both posts, SBI accepted specified B.E., B.Tech or M.Tech disciplines—including computer science, IT, electronics, data science and AI/ML—along with specified postgraduate degrees in statistics or data science, or an MCA. The degree had to be from an AICTE- or UGC-recognized university or institution. Candidates needed at least 60% marks or equivalent in both graduation and postgraduation.

Relevant work experience
Experience had to be post-qualification and in data science or AI/ML model development. The notice specified minimum overall experience as well as minimum time in analytics and model development:
| Requirement | Manager (Data Scientist) | Deputy Manager (Data Scientist) |
|---|---|---|
| Overall relevant experience | At least 5 years | At least 3 years |
| Analytics/AI/machine learning/GenAI experience | At least 2 years | At least 2 years |
| Developing AI/ML/deep-learning/GenAI models | At least 2 years | At least 1 year |
SBI said financial-sector experience was desirable, not a basic eligibility requirement. Candidates were expected to support claimed experience with a suitable employer certificate. MBA/PGDM with a finance specialization and certain AI/ML, NLP, web-crawling or neural-network certifications were also listed as preferred qualifications rather than mandatory basics.

Skills and responsibilities
The notice described desired capabilities across the data-science lifecycle: implementing ML, AI and deep-learning solutions; using visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau; working with R, Python or PySpark and relational or NoSQL databases; MLOps and deployment; data storage and warehousing; large-scale and streaming analytics; cloud-based AI/ML; and GenAI development, testing and deployment. These were desired capabilities, not a separate checklist of mandatory eligibility conditions.
Work could include selecting and cleaning data, choosing analytical methods and programming languages, assessing whether a data-science solution fits a business problem, developing and monitoring solutions, and recommending improvements. SBI also described work involving NLP and parsing tools, scalable big-data workflows, internal platforms and client delivery channels, with collaboration across product, business, quality assurance, data operations and IT infrastructure teams. The Manager role additionally included setting direction and leading the adoption of methods, tools and emerging approaches. SBI said specific key responsibility areas could be assigned on joining.
How selection worked
SBI’s process was shortlisting followed by interview. The bank’s committee set the shortlisting parameters, so meeting the stated education and experience criteria did not guarantee an interview invitation. The notice cautioned: “Mere fulfilling minimum qualification and experience will not vest any right in candidate for being called for interview.”
The interview carried 100 marks, and the merit list was based on interview scores.
