SanDisk 2TB Extreme PRO SSD at $169.99? Check Availability Before You Buy

A $169.99 listing for SanDisk’s 2TB Extreme PRO SSD is not confirmed as a live deal. Here’s what to verify—and what its speed and ruggedness claims mean.

Verdict: The $169.99 price for SanDisk’s 2TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD is not verified as a live, generally available deal. A captured retailer comparison showed that price at Western Digital but marked the item unavailable; other results showed higher featured prices and lower “more options” marketplace offers. The claimed 32% saving also lacks a verified comparison price. If you find it at checkout, confirm the exact model, seller, condition and return terms before buying.

Is the $169.99 offer real?

The drive in question is the 2TB SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD, model SDSSDE81-2T00-G25. The captured price evidence does not establish that a new unit from a reputable seller could be purchased for $169.99: Honey’s retailer comparison showed that price at Western Digital but marked it unavailable, while Newegg results showed higher featured prices and “more options from $169.99.” Those results do not confirm the lower offer’s seller, condition, shipping cost or checkout total. Honey’s captured retailer comparison and Newegg’s search results are price snapshots, not proof of a current offer.

Before placing an order, check that the listing is in stock and that the checkout page identifies the exact model, a new condition, the seller, shipping charges and any coupon or membership requirement. Marketplace “from” prices can be for a different seller or condition, and similar product names can refer to the slower Extreme model rather than Extreme PRO.

Does the 32% saving add up?

A $169.99 sale price is about 32% below $249.99, but that arithmetic does not establish $249.99 as a meaningful reference price. It could be a list price, a retailer’s prior price or a comparison figure without evidence of recent sales at that amount. The captured results also showed substantially higher prices: Amazon around $359.99, Newegg around $329.99–$359.99 in search results, and a Newegg promotional page with a $359.99 sold price and the item out of stock. These are captured listings, not a current market survey or a verified price history. Honey’s retailer comparison and Newegg’s promotion page provide that limited context.

Sandisk 2TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD, Up to 4000MB/s Read Speeds -New Model
  • SUSTAINED PERFORMANCE FOR HEAVY WORKLOADS. 3100 MB/s(2) average sustained write speeds (2TB-4TB models(1)) help ensure long, high‑volume transfers complete reliably—even under heavy workloads.
  • UP TO 4000 MB/s(2) TRANSFER SPEED. Move up to 10 minutes of 12K video in under a minute(5).
  • IP65 AND UP TO 3M DROP PROTECTION(3). Built to handle tough, real-world conditions.
  • 256-BIT AES ENCYRPTION(4). Helps keeps private files secure with password protection(4).
  • SPACE FOR AI PROJECT WORKFLOWS. Pro-grade performance for AI-enhanced editing, rendering, and post-production.

So treat “save 32%” as an unverified comparison claim, not proof that the drive is currently discounted by that amount against a recent selling price.

What the 2TB Extreme PRO offers

SanDisk lists the SDSSDE81-2T00-G25 with a USB-C connector and USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface. Its advertised sequential read and write speeds are each up to 2,000 MB/s. The company says actual performance varies with the host device, interface and usage conditions, so those figures are maximum claims rather than a guaranteed everyday or sustained transfer rate. SanDisk’s product specifications and its product datasheet give the listed specifications.

  • Powerful NVMe solid state performance featuring up to 2000MB/s read/write speeds.(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • A forged aluminum chassis acts as a heatsink to deliver higher sustained speeds in a portable drive that’s tough enough to take on any adventure.
  • Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance(4), and a handy carabiner loop. (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
  • Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
  • Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5) (Download and installation required.)
  • Size and weight: 4.34 × 2.26 × 0.40 inches and 77.5 grams.
  • Durability claims: Up to three-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance.
  • Construction: SanDisk says the forged aluminum chassis acts as a heatsink and is covered by a silicone shell; the drive also has a carabiner loop.
  • Warranty: Five-year limited warranty, subject to its terms.
  • Capacity: 2TB is nominal; the space available to store files is lower after formatting and capacity measurement conventions.

Will your computer reach the advertised speed?

Only if the entire connection supports the relevant speed. USB-C describes the connector shape, not the data rate. To approach this drive’s advertised performance, the host needs USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 support (20Gbps), along with a suitable cable and workload. A USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection is a 10Gbps-class link; USB 3.2 Gen 1 or USB 3.0 is slower. The drive may work with other USB-C, USB-A, Thunderbolt or USB4 hosts through compatible USB modes, but compatibility does not guarantee 2,000 MB/s. It is not the newer USB4 version of the product.

Long writes can also slow because of heat, cache behavior, the source drive, the computer’s controller and filesystem overhead. The aluminum casing is intended to help dissipate heat, but it is not a promise of constant maximum throughput. Check your computer’s technical specifications for its port’s data rate rather than relying on the port’s shape.

  • Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
  • Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
  • Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
  • Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C

Mac, Windows and other device compatibility

SanDisk describes the drive for desktop and laptop use and lists password-protection support for Windows 8, Windows 10 and macOS 10.9 or later. Those software and operating-system details should be checked against SanDisk’s current support information before relying on them. The included USB-C-to-USB-A cable allows connection to a compatible USB-A port, but that connection’s speed is limited by the port.

For routine file exchange between macOS and Windows, check the drive’s filesystem before moving files. A drive formatted for one platform may not be natively writable on the other, depending on the format; reformatting can erase data. Do not assume compatibility with a phone, tablet, game console or camera just because it has USB-C. Device support, power delivery, file format and any required adapter or powered hub matter.

  • SPACE TO OWN YOUR AI CONTENT – speed and capacity to download your high-res clips and photo edits.
  • 256-BIT AES ENCRYPTION(4) – helps keep private files secure with password protection.

Rugged does not mean waterproof

SanDisk rates the drive IP65 and claims drop protection up to three meters. IP65 indicates dust protection and resistance to limited water jets under specified test conditions; it is not an underwater rating. SanDisk’s product-page footnote describes a three-minute water-flow test and says the drive must be clean and dry before use. Do not submerge it or treat the rating as protection against every spill, impact or field condition. SanDisk’s product page sets out the company’s durability claims and qualifications.

Encryption helps with privacy, not backup

SanDisk lists password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption. That can help protect files if the drive is lost, but the feature may depend on SanDisk software and supported operating systems. Store the password or recovery information securely; if you lose access credentials, you may also lose access to the files. Test the setup with noncritical files before entrusting it with important data.

Sandisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD, Up to 1050MB/s Read Speeds (Old Model)
  • Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)

Encryption does not protect against deletion, corruption, hardware failure, theft or physical damage. For important files, use the portable SSD as one backup destination, not the only copy:

  1. Keep the original files on your computer or primary device.
  2. Copy them to the SSD and confirm that important files open.
  3. Keep another copy on a separate drive, in cloud storage or at another physical location.
  4. Eject the drive through the operating system before unplugging it, especially after a write.
  5. Periodically check that the backup is readable and current.

Who should consider it—and who should pass?

Consider it if

  • You need a compact 2TB drive for active photo or video projects, large transfers or travel.
  • Your computer supports USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, or you accept lower speeds on your available port.
  • You want the specific combination of ruggedness claims, USB-A and USB-C cables, and a five-year limited warranty.
  • You have confirmed a reputable seller, new condition, stock, return terms and the price at checkout.

Pass or compare alternatives if

  • You mainly need inexpensive bulk or archival storage and do not benefit from SSD transfer speed.
  • Your device has slower ports and a less expensive drive would meet your needs.
  • You require a waterproof or submersible drive, or plan to rely on a single device as your only backup.
  • The seller, model number, warranty eligibility or return policy is unclear.
  • A USB4 drive at a similar price better suits your USB4 system and workload.

What to compare before paying more

If the Extreme PRO is not actually available at $169.99, compare the total price and interface against other options rather than treating a higher listing as a deal. The regular SanDisk Extreme is a slower performance-class product, identified in retailer results at up to 1,050 MB/s; the Crucial X10 was listed in a price-comparison result at up to about 2,100 MB/s; and the Samsung T9 is another USB 3.2 Gen 2×2-class option advertised in the 2,000 MB/s range. These figures and product identifications come from retailer or comparison results, not independently verified tests, and current prices and official buying pages were not established here. Newegg’s SanDisk product results and Hard Disk Prices show the cited comparison context.

SanDisk’s newer Extreme PRO USB4 model was identified in Newegg results with advertised speeds up to about 3,800 MB/s read and 3,700 MB/s write, but it is a different, higher-speed product and requires suitable USB4 hardware to realize its advantage. Newegg’s external SSD results provide that captured listing context; they do not establish a current price comparison.

Bottom line on the price

At a verified $169.99 for a new SDSSDE81-2T00-G25 from a reputable seller, the drive could be compelling for a buyer who will use its rugged design and fast interface. The evidence available for this offer does not confirm that checkout-ready deal, and it does not prove a genuine 32% saving. At higher prices—especially the captured $330–$360 range—compare other 2TB drives and newer interfaces before deciding.
