Samsung’s Record Q3 Profit Forecast: How the Memory Crunch Is Driving Earnings

Samsung’s preliminary Q3 2026 operating-profit estimate is KRW 107.4 trillion. Here’s how AI demand and constrained memory supply are driving the forecast, and why it is not yet a final result.

Samsung Electronics forecast third-quarter 2026 operating profit of about KRW 107.4 trillion, a preliminary estimate that would be a record if confirmed. The company gave a range of KRW 107.3 trillion to KRW 107.5 trillion before its external audit was complete. Reuters described the estimate as the highest quarterly operating profit for any technology company and the first to top KRW 100 trillion. Samsung’s detailed Q3 results were scheduled for October 29, 2026.

What Samsung’s Q3 profit forecast says—and what it does not

Samsung’s October 8 announcement was guidance, not finalized quarterly results. The company also estimated consolidated sales of KRW 195 trillion, with a range of KRW 194 trillion to KRW 196 trillion. Samsung cautioned that actual results could differ materially from these estimates.

Reuters reported an LSEG SmartEstimate of KRW 106.1 trillion for Q3 operating profit. That is an analyst estimate, not a company forecast or reported result. The distinction matters: neither figure is a final audited number, and they should not be treated as interchangeable.

The estimate is company-wide. Samsung had not yet released a detailed Q3 divisional breakdown, so the exact share of Q3 profit attributable to memory was not established as of October 11.

Why memory prices and profits have surged

AI infrastructure is adding demand

AI data centers use memory in multiple forms, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM) alongside conventional DRAM and storage products such as NAND-based enterprise SSDs. Samsung’s Q2 outlook pointed to continued investment in AI infrastructure and broader adoption of agentic AI as drivers of demand for server DRAM, enterprise SSDs and HBM.

Supply has struggled to keep pace

Samsung said in its Q2 results that limited capacity and strong server demand supported memory earnings, alongside industry-wide price increases. It expected server-centered demand to keep the market undersupplied in the second half of 2026, even as demand growth moderated somewhat in mobile devices and PCs. Reuters likewise described tight supply in conventional DRAM and NAND as well as rising HBM demand.

When customers compete for constrained supply, chipmakers can sell more of their output at higher prices. That combination can lift revenue and profit, though the effect depends on product mix, production costs and the prices manufacturers can sustain.

Q2 2026 figure What Samsung reported
Consolidated revenue KRW 171.5 trillion, an all-time quarterly high at the time of the release
Consolidated operating profit KRW 89.5 trillion, an all-time quarterly high at the time of the release
Device Solutions Division revenue KRW 127.5 trillion
Device Solutions Division operating profit KRW 89.2 trillion
Memory Business Samsung said it achieved all-time quarterly highs for revenue and operating profit; it did not provide a Q3 segment contribution in the preliminary guidance

The Device Solutions Division figure is a segment result, not Samsung’s consolidated operating profit. Samsung attributed the Memory Business’s Q2 performance to AI demand, a focus on server products and industry-wide price increases. It also reported a record-high server revenue share in its sales mix and increased HBM4 sales.

Could the memory boom lose momentum?

A record forecast does not mean growth will continue at the same pace. Reuters reported that TrendForce expected conventional DRAM contract prices to rise 10% to 15% quarter over quarter in Q4 2026, slower than the roughly 60% increase TrendForce reported for Q2. The Q4 figure is a forecast of continued price growth at a more moderate rate, not evidence that prices were already falling.

Reuters also reported that Samsung and Micron expected the wider supply-demand imbalance to persist into 2028. That is an expectation, not a guarantee. More capacity, weaker demand or a slowdown in AI investment could change the balance.

Other pressures on earnings

  • Currency: Reuters noted that a stronger won can reduce the translated value of overseas, dollar-denominated sales.
  • Competition: Chinese competitors could put pressure on prices and market share over time, according to Reuters.
  • AI investment: If customers slow or defer infrastructure spending, demand for memory could weaken.
  • Costs elsewhere at Samsung: Higher component costs can pressure the company’s smartphone and consumer-electronics divisions, offsetting some benefit from memory.

What the forecast means for consumers and investors

Samsung’s profit forecast is evidence of strong demand and constrained supply in key memory markets; it is not, by itself, a reliable predictor of retail prices for a particular laptop, phone or memory module. Consumer prices also depend on product specifications, inventories, distribution and competition. Nor does a company profit record establish that a stock will rise: Reuters reported that Samsung shares did not climb in step with the new estimate, amid questions about how durable earnings growth would be.

For investors, the key next data point was Samsung’s scheduled October 29 detailed Q3 results, which could confirm or revise the preliminary estimate and provide divisional detail. Until then, keep the company’s guidance separate from final results and analyst forecasts.
