Status: expired historical promotion. On December 12, 2024, Samsung reportedly offered the Galaxy Z Flip6 for as little as $249 with a qualifying trade-in. The same promotion was reported at $799 without a trade-in. Samsung’s currently indexed U.S. offer page shows a $1,099.99 starting price before trade-in, but does not verify that the December promotion remains active.
In other words, “$850 off” was the maximum combined promotional and trade-in reduction—not an instant discount available to every shopper.
What the $850-off Galaxy Z Flip6 deal actually meant
Droid Life reported on December 12, 2024 that Samsung’s then-$1,099 phone could reach $249 when paired with a qualifying high-value trade-in. The report also put the no-trade-in promotional price at $799.
| Scenario | Reported price | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum advertised reduction | $249 | Qualifying high-value trade-in; reported as $850 off approximately $1,099 |
| No trade-in | $799 | Reported $300 promotion |
| Samsung indexed starting price | $1,099.99 | Before trade-in on Samsung’s current indexed offer page |
The $249 figure therefore represented the phone’s price after Samsung credited the value of an eligible old device. It was not a universal checkout price, and the original coverage does not establish that every storage tier or color received identical treatment.

#1 Best Overall
- Offers a 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X folding main display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, giving you fluid visuals for media, gaming, and multitasking while still folding into a compact, stylish form.
Samsung’s indexed Galaxy Z Flip6 offers page says eligible trade-in models and values can change and that offers may be modified or discontinued. Treat the December 2024 promotion as historical unless a live checkout page reproduces the terms.
Trade-in rules that determined eligibility
Samsung’s offer terms require more than simply owning an old phone. The device generally must:
- Power on and hold a charge, with a functioning display.
- Be free of prohibited cracks, breaks, liquid damage, blacklisting and defects beyond permitted normal wear. Cracked-screen eligibility depends on the specific offer.
- Be owned by you, not leased; any remaining obligation to your carrier or finance company still applies.
- Have personal data removed, software locks disabled and factory settings restored.
- Be shipped to Samsung within 15 days after you receive the new phone.
- Be the one trade-in allowed per qualifying purchase.
Back up your data, sign out of accounts, remove an eSIM, disable device-tracking features and photograph the phone’s condition and shipping package before sending it.
What if Samsung rejects the device?
Samsung can charge back the credited trade-in amount when the phone is late or fails inspection. If it arrives on time but does not satisfy the requirements, Samsung says the chargeback may be the applied credit minus $25. The apparent $249 cost is therefore not secure until the inspection is completed.

- Offers a 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X folding main display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, giving you fluid visuals for media, gaming, and multitasking while still folding into a compact, stylish form.
- On the outside, there’s a 3.4″ Super AMOLED FlexWindow cover screen that allows quick access to widgets, notifications, health tracking, and camera controls without opening the phone.
- Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “for Galaxy” processor paired with 12 GB of RAM, delivering fast, efficient performance for 5G connectivity, apps, and AI-driven features.
- Equipped with a dual rear camera setup (50 MP wide with OIS + 12 MP ultra-wide) and a 10 MP front camera — perfect for high-quality photos, video, and creative FlexCam shots from unique foldable angles.
- Built tough with IP48 water resistance, an enhanced Armor Aluminum hinge, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, combining style, durability, and secure access.
The trade-in program generally cannot be combined with other Samsung, carrier or retailer promotions unless the specific offer says otherwise. Do not assume coupon codes, installment credits, accessory bonuses or carrier deals stack.
What phone was behind the promotion?
Samsung’s specification sheet lists the Galaxy Z Flip6 in 256GB and 512GB versions, both with 12GB of RAM. Core hardware includes:
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Main screen | 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate |
| Cover screen | 3.4-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy |
| Cameras | 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP selfie |
| Battery | 4,000mAh |
| Durability | IP48 water-resistance rating and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 |
| Launch software | Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1 |
These specifications explain the appeal for shoppers who want a compact, pocketable foldable. IP48 is a water-resistance rating, not a claim that the phone is waterproof; foldable construction also makes condition, repair coverage and return rights especially important on older stock.
Is a Z Flip6 purchase sensible in 2026?
Only compare a verified, current checkout total with newer foldables and conventional flagships. A Z Flip6 can make sense when you specifically want Samsung’s compact flip design, have a valuable fully functional trade-in and can confirm Samsung-backed warranty and returns. It is harder to justify when the phone is near the indexed $1,099.99 price, because the model is older and newer devices or non-folding phones may offer better value.

Buy only when these conditions line up
- Your exact trade-in model and condition produce a substantial, confirmed credit.
- The final price is clearly below current alternatives.
- You value pocketability and the cover-screen experience more than maximum battery life, telephoto photography or ruggedness.
- The seller, storage tier, warranty and return policy are explicit.
- You can absorb a possible chargeback if inspection fails.
Skip or wait when these warnings apply
- You have no trade-in and the price is close to $1,099.99.
- Your old phone is cracked, locked, blacklisted, liquid-damaged, leased or of uncertain ownership.
- You need the strongest battery endurance, camera versatility or durability for the money.
- A marketplace listing has unclear condition, unlocked status, seller identity, warranty or returns.
- A carrier offer appears cheaper only because credits require a lengthy service or installment commitment.
How to verify a live offer before paying
- Open Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip6 offers page and confirm that the phone is still listed.
- Select the exact storage tier and color, then verify inventory and the advertised discount at checkout.
- Enter your precise trade-in model and condition; save the resulting estimate.
- Read the return deadline, 15-day trade-in shipping rule and inspection or chargeback language.
- Calculate the complete total, including sales tax, shipping and required service costs.
- Confirm whether any credit is instant, spread across installments, paid later or issued as a gift card.
- Verify that the warranty is Samsung-backed and that the return policy covers the actual seller and device condition.
Use this calculation rather than the headline price:
Effective cost = checkout price + taxes and fees + required service costs − confirmed trade-in credit − confirmed promotional credits.
Do not count a nominal trade-in value as a guaranteed discount until Samsung accepts the device.
The Bottom Line
The $249 Galaxy Z Flip6 was a compelling December 12, 2024 trade-in outcome, not proof of a current $850-off deal. In 2026, buy only if a live checkout page confirms a similarly low effective cost after you account for the old phone’s real value, taxes, warranty and the risk of a trade-in chargeback.
