Roh. Much of that expansion is expected to use Google Gemini. The plan makes Samsung a major distribution channel for Google’s AI, but it does not mean 800 million identical “Gemini phones” or that Galaxy AI is entirely a Google product.
What Samsung actually committed to
Reuters reported that Samsung aims to double the number of mobile products with AI features to approximately 800 million in 2026. The figure covers smartphones and tablets and is a company target, not an independently audited shipment or installed-base count. It also describes products that support AI capabilities, largely powered by Gemini, rather than devices running one identical assistant.
The announcement is part of a broader ambition from Samsung co-CEO T.M. Roh to apply AI across products, functions and services. Whether Samsung reaches the target will depend on new-device sales, software updates, regional availability and how the company defines an “AI-equipped” product.

Galaxy AI is an umbrella, not one model
Galaxy AI is Samsung’s branded experience across Galaxy devices. It can combine Samsung-designed software, Google models, conventional automation, on-device processing and cloud services. The label does not identify a single foundation model.

Samsung’s contribution
Samsung controls the Galaxy interface, operating-system integration, device context and hardware features. Its layer includes functions such as translation, summaries, editing, personalization and device-level controls. Samsung can decide how these tools appear in One UI and how they connect with phones, tablets, watches and other products.
Google’s contribution
Google supplies important generative-AI infrastructure and models. Samsung and Google Cloud announced the Galaxy S24 partnership in January 2024, combining Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 through Vertex AI with Gemini Nano for selected on-device tasks. That arrangement lets Samsung deploy advanced capabilities without developing every general-purpose model itself.

Other agents may be part of the mix
Samsung’s newer positioning emphasizes a multi-agent ecosystem. Users may be able to choose different integrated agents for different tasks instead of relying on one assistant. That creates flexibility, but it can also produce duplicated features, conflicting answers and different privacy or billing policies.

Samsung’s multi-agent announcement
Why Gemini matters to Samsung and Google
Samsung gains a faster route to capable AI features and can use them to differentiate new Galaxy products. Google gains something equally valuable: hardware distribution, prominent placement and more opportunities for people to use Gemini inside everyday Android workflows.
Samsung said more than 70% of Galaxy S25 users had used Samsung or Google AI tools and that Gemini usage had tripled on its latest Galaxy S series. Those are Samsung’s own reported figures, not independent measures of global Gemini market share. The announcement does not provide enough methodology to treat them as proof of satisfaction, retention or worldwide adoption.
Samsung’s reported Galaxy AI usage figures
The relationship is therefore mutually useful but not one-sided. Samsung obtains model capabilities and Google obtains a large hardware channel. Samsung also becomes more exposed to Google’s model quality, pricing, product decisions and commercial terms.
How the strategy is spreading across Galaxy products
Samsung’s AI messaging now extends beyond the Galaxy S line to a wider ecosystem, including foldables, tablets, watches, XR products, future eyewear and home devices such as Ballie. Its 2026 materials describe more proactive, contextual assistance, including “Now Brief”- and “Now Nudge”-style personalization and task execution rather than simple question answering.

What users actually receive
On-device and cloud processing are different
Samsung identifies both on-device and cloud-based Galaxy AI functions. It lists translation, ambient wallpapers and some messaging functions among on-device capabilities, while auto-formatting, summarization, correction and image editing may use cloud processing. Exact behavior can change with a device and software update.
Samsung says users can disable cloud-based processing through Galaxy AI settings, although the menu wording and available controls should be checked on the particular One UI release. Turning off cloud processing may limit some features.

Samsung Galaxy AI compatibility and processing support
Eligibility is uneven
Samsung’s support list includes current and older Galaxy phones and tablets, but features vary by model, software version, country, language, carrier and account. A flagship Galaxy S26 experience should not be assumed to represent an older phone or a lower-cost Galaxy model. A supported device may receive selected tools without receiving every flagship capability.
“Free” needs a time qualification
The available evidence does not establish a universal, permanent policy that every advanced Galaxy AI feature will remain free. Device promotions and bundled trials can expire, and future services may have separate terms. Buyers should check the offer attached to their specific model rather than treating the 800-million target as a promise of unlimited included AI.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The strategic trade-off for Samsung
| Samsung gains | Samsung gives up or risks |
|---|---|
| Faster access to advanced generative models | Greater exposure to Google’s model roadmap and commercial terms |
| Control of Galaxy hardware, One UI and cross-device context | Less control over the core generative intelligence than a fully proprietary stack |
| A broader ecosystem story for phones, tablets and wearables | Inconsistent features across models, regions and software versions |
| The option to promote multiple agents | More complicated defaults, support, permissions and privacy explanations |
This is best understood as a hybrid strategy. Samsung is not simply surrendering AI to Google: it owns the product layer and can integrate other agents. But it is not independent of Google either; Gemini is already a substantial part of the experience.

What the expansion means for competition
For Google, Samsung’s reach can strengthen Gemini against rival assistant ecosystems by putting Google technology inside more devices and more daily tasks. For Samsung, AI can help sell premium hardware, encourage users to stay inside the Galaxy ecosystem and make features such as foldable multitasking or cross-device workflows more valuable.
The 800-million ambition does not by itself prove that Samsung’s AI is more useful than Apple’s, Google’s Pixel experience or another Android manufacturer’s implementation. Nor does it show that users form lasting habits. The meaningful tests are recurring usefulness, accuracy, privacy controls, device coverage and whether new capabilities justify buying new hardware.
How to judge the 800-million claim as a consumer
- Reach: Check how many devices receive a feature, rather than counting every product marketed as AI-capable.
- Model provenance: Identify whether a function uses Samsung software, Gemini, another provider or ordinary automation.
- Processing mode: Find out whether data stays on the device or is sent to the cloud.
- Controls: Confirm whether cloud processing can be restricted and what functionality is lost when it is disabled.
- Coverage: Verify the exact model, country, language and software version.
- Cost: Check whether an AI trial expires or becomes a paid service.
- Reliability: Treat agentic task execution separately from demonstrations or one-time activation.
- Lock-in: Consider whether changing assistants would remove important phone functions.
What this means for buying a Galaxy device
Samsung’s expansion makes a new Galaxy phone more compelling for people already using Galaxy Watch, Buds, tablets, DeX or Samsung services. Existing owners should first check whether their current device is on Samsung’s compatibility list; buying a new phone solely for an AI label may offer less value if comparable features arrive through an update.
Samsung’s US business pages listed starting prices of $899.99 for the Galaxy S26, $1,099.99 for the S26+, and $1,299.99 for the S26 Ultra when captured in August 2026. The Z Fold8 was listed from $1,899.99, the Z Fold8 Ultra from $2,099.99 and the Z Flip8 from $1,199.99. These are US starting prices that can change with storage, promotions and availability.

Bottom line
Samsung is trying to turn Galaxy AI into a mass-market distribution layer. Its plan to reach about 800 million AI-equipped mobile products in 2026 could give Google Gemini extraordinary hardware reach, while Samsung supplies the devices, interface and ecosystem integration. The number is strategically important, but it does not guarantee identical capabilities, permanent free access, privacy equivalence or user satisfaction. The central story is partnership and mutual leverage: Google provides much of the generative engine, and Samsung decides how that engine reaches customers.
