Samsung Phones Under $300: The 3 Best Models to Consider in the U.S. (2026)

The Galaxy A17 5G is the best overall Samsung phone under $300, while the A16 5G is the best budget value. The A26 5G has better hardware but is currently out of stock and marked EOL.

The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is the best overall new, unlocked Samsung phone under $300 in the U.S. The Galaxy A16 5G is the better choice when minimizing the purchase price matters most. The Galaxy A26 5G offers the strongest hardware of the three, but Samsung currently lists it as out of stock and its March 2026 MSRP document marks it end-of-life (EOL).

Prices and availability below were checked against Samsung U.S. sources on August 18, 2026. Samsung’s pages show conflicting A17 prices, so treat every price as a current price signal—not a permanent guarantee—and confirm the final amount at checkout.

What “under $300” means here

This guide compares new phones priced at $300 or less before sales tax. The comparison prioritizes U.S. unlocked models and does not assume a trade-in, carrier financing, required unlimited plan, monthly bill credits, or a new-line activation.

A carrier advertisement showing a phone for $0 is not necessarily a $0 phone. The offer may require a qualifying plan, device financing, a trade-in, and months of bill credits that disappear if you cancel the line. Those offers can be worthwhile, but they are a different purchase proposition from buying a new unlocked phone.

#1 Best Overall
Samsung Galaxy A16 4G LTE (128GB + 4GB) International Model SM-A165F/DS Factory Unlocked, 6.7", Dual SIM, 50MP Triple Camera (Case Bundle), Black
  • Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
  • Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
  • Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.

Also budget for sales tax, a case, screen protector, and potentially a USB-C charger. A $299.99 phone is already above $300 after tax in most locations.

Quick comparison

Model Price signal Storage and network Availability Best for Main compromise
Galaxy A17 5G $199.99 on Samsung direct-buy/MSRP sources; $249.99 on Samsung’s current A-series page 128GB unlocked U.S. model; 5G Most practical current option, subject to checkout verification Best overall balance Entry-level performance and inconsistent Samsung page data
Galaxy A16 5G $169.99 on Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP sheet 128GB unlocked U.S. model; 5G Current/recent U.S. model; verify inventory Lowest credible price Less performance and a shorter practical runway than the A17
Galaxy A26 5G $299.99 MSRP 128GB unlocked U.S. model; 5G Samsung currently says out of stock; MSRP sheet says EOL Best hardware if new stock is found Availability and lifecycle risk

Model numbers matter more than the product name alone: look for the U.S. unlocked SKUs SM-A176UZKAXAA (A17), SM-A166UZKAXAA (A16), and SM-A266UZKAXAA (A26).

1. Samsung Galaxy A17 5G: best overall

The Galaxy A17 5G is the safest default recommendation because it occupies the useful middle ground: it is newer than the A16, remains within the budget, includes 5G, and is available in a 128GB U.S. unlocked configuration.

Samsung’s current A-series comparison page lists the A17 from $249.99. Samsung’s direct-buy page and March 2026 MSRP materials have also shown the 128GB unlocked model at $199.99. Because those sources are not synchronized, check the exact SKU and the final checkout price rather than relying on a search result or an old promotion.

Who should buy it

  • Most shoppers who want a new Samsung phone under $300.
  • Parents and students who need a general-purpose device.
  • Buyers who want 5G and a better chance of remaining comfortable with the phone over several years.
  • People who prefer buying directly from Samsung with a clearly identified U.S. model.

What to expect

The A17 is still an entry-level Galaxy phone, not a substitute for an S-series device. It should be evaluated for ordinary communication, browsing, streaming, navigation, and social apps—not assumed to be ideal for demanding games or heavy multitasking without independent testing.

Samsung’s current and cached pages have shown inconsistent A17 specification blocks. For that reason, verify the exact U.S. product page before relying on detailed claims about its processor, RAM, camera configuration, refresh rate, or IP rating. The direct-buy page also says the charger is not included, so include a compatible charger in the ownership cost if needed.

2. Samsung Galaxy A16 5G: best budget value

The Galaxy A16 5G is the value pick. Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet lists the unlocked 128GB model at $169.99, although Samsung launched it at $199.99 in January 2025. The later figure is the latest official MSRP signal in the supplied sources, not a promise that every retailer currently sells it for that amount.

Why it is compelling

For the price, the A16 has a particularly appealing display: a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with up to a 90Hz refresh rate and up to 800 nits peak brightness. A bright AMOLED screen can make a bigger difference in daily use than benchmark performance, especially for messaging, video, reading, and scrolling.

Samsung lists a 50MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide camera, 2MP macro camera, 13MP front camera, Exynos 1330 processor, and 5,000mAh battery. It supports 25W Super Fast Charging, but Samsung says the charger is sold separately. Battery life will vary with brightness, 5G use, GPS, gaming, streaming, signal strength, and background apps; the 5,000mAh capacity is not a guaranteed number of hours.

Software support and durability

Samsung promised the U.S. A16 six generations of Android and One UI upgrades plus six years of security updates. That is unusually strong support on a phone at this price, although long support does not guarantee flagship-like speed for six years. Battery aging, storage pressure, app requirements, and processor performance still affect the experience.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The A16 has an IP54 rating. That means limited protection from dust and splashing water—not protection for swimming, submersion, showers, or deliberate water exposure. Liquid damage may not be covered by warranty.

  • No Warranty. Compatible with Most GSM Carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Sprint.

Who should buy it

  • Buyers who want to spend as little as possible on a new Samsung phone.
  • Parents buying a first phone.
  • Users focused on calls, messages, streaming, browsing, navigation, and social media.
  • People who value a large AMOLED display and long documented software support more than peak performance.

Because the A16 is an older model than the A17, confirm that a third-party listing is new, unlocked, a U.S. SKU, and covered by a meaningful warranty.

3. Samsung Galaxy A26 5G: best feature set if you can find new stock

The Galaxy A26 5G is the most capable phone in this three-model comparison on paper, but it is not the best default purchase. Samsung’s product page lists the 128GB unlocked model at $299.99 and currently says Out of Stock. Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP document also labels the model EOL.

Samsung’s A-series materials identify a 5,000mAh battery, 50MP main camera, 8MP ultrawide camera, 2MP macro camera, 6GB RAM, and expandable storage support up to 1TB for the U.S. A26 listing. Those features make it attractive at the budget ceiling, but they do not eliminate the risks of buying a discontinued or hard-to-find model.

When it makes sense

Consider the A26 only if you find new, unlocked, U.S. stock from a reputable seller for $300 or less, with a clear return policy and manufacturer or authorized-seller warranty. Do not pay more than $300 simply because availability is limited; at that point, a newer phone above the budget may offer better long-term value.

Be cautious with listings labeled “global,” “international,” “Latin American,” “European,” “dual SIM import,” or “renewed.” A similar product name may conceal different network bands, warranty coverage, software, or carrier compatibility.

How to choose

  1. Choose the A16 5G if the lowest purchase price is your priority and your needs are basic.
  2. Choose the A17 5G if you want the safest all-around balance of price, 5G, storage, and a newer position in Samsung’s budget range.
  3. Choose the A26 5G only if legitimate new unlocked stock is available at or below $300.
  4. Consider spending more than $300 if you need substantially stronger performance, a better camera system, or a current model and the A26 is unavailable.

Important buying checks

  • Confirm the exact model number: Do not rely only on “Galaxy A16,” “Galaxy A17,” or “Galaxy A26.”
  • Confirm unlocked status: “Paid off” does not necessarily mean a phone is carrier-unlocked.
  • Check carrier compatibility: Ask your carrier or MVNO to verify the IMEI or model. Compatibility can depend on 5G bands, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, eSIM support, and network configuration, especially with Verizon-based services and rural carriers.
  • Check condition: Make sure the listing says new, not used, renewed, open-box, or refurbished.
  • Check the warranty and return policy: This is particularly important for A26 clearance inventory and third-party sellers.
  • Check storage needs: 128GB is enough for many users, but large games, offline video, and years of photos can fill it. A microSD card, where supported by the exact SKU, can help with media storage but will not improve processor performance.
  • Check the checkout total: Promotions can expire, taxes and shipping can apply, and Samsung’s A17 pages currently show different prices.
  • Check accessories: Charging support does not mean a charger is included. Samsung’s A16 announcement says the 25W charger is sold separately, and the A17 direct-buy page says no charger is included.

Models that do not make the main three

Galaxy A15 5G

Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP sheet lists an A15 5G configuration at $169.99 but marks it EOL. It may be acceptable only as an older-model deal if it is genuinely new, unlocked, warrantied, and meaningfully cheaper than the A16. It should not displace the A16 as the primary budget recommendation.

Galaxy A27 5G

Samsung’s current A-series page lists the A27 at $349.99, placing it outside this guide’s budget. It is relevant only if you are willing to spend $50 more.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Refurbished Galaxy S-series phones

A refurbished S-series phone may offer a better processor or camera for the money, but it is not directly comparable with a new phone under $300. Compare battery condition, seller reputation, warranty, return period, repair history, and remaining software support before buying.

Should you buy Samsung Care+?

Samsung Care+ may be worth considering for a child, an accident-prone user, or someone keeping the phone for several years. Samsung’s A17 page has displayed Care+ pricing as low as $3 per month for that transaction, but plan prices, deductibles, eligibility, and coverage terms can change. Compare the total premiums and deductible with the phone’s purchase price before enrolling; coverage may be poor value on a $169.99 phone.

For current terms, review Samsung Care+ directly.

Final verdict

For most U.S. shoppers, buy the Galaxy A17 5G if Samsung or a reputable seller offers the new unlocked U.S. model for $249.99 or less. Buy the Galaxy A16 5G when saving money is more important than having the newest option. Treat the Galaxy A26 5G as a conditional bargain, not a normal recommendation: Samsung currently lists it out of stock and marks it EOL, so buy it only when new, unlocked, warrantied stock is clearly available for no more than $300.

Before paying, check Samsung’s current A-series lineup and the exact product page. Budget phones, promotions, and remaining inventory can change quickly.
