That is preliminary guidance for the whole company, not final audited earnings and not a figure attributed solely to memory chips. Samsung links its recent memory strength to AI demand, constrained capacity and rising industry prices; those conditions may raise costs for device makers, but they do not prove that every phone or PC will become more expensive.
What does Samsung’s $80 billion figure mean?
The headline figure is Samsung Electronics’ estimate of consolidated operating profit: KRW 107.3 trillion to KRW 107.5 trillion, with a midpoint of KRW 107.4 trillion. The company also guided to consolidated sales of KRW 194 trillion to KRW 196 trillion, centered on KRW 195 trillion. These are K-IFRS estimates issued October 8, 2026, before the external audit was complete. Samsung’s pre-earnings guidance says actual results may differ materially.

Operating profit is not net income: it is a measure of profit from operations before items such as interest and taxes are accounted for. The roughly $80 billion shorthand refers to the KRW 107.4 trillion operating-profit midpoint, not sales or take-home profit.
How large is the expected jump?
Samsung’s October 8 guidance release compared its estimate with company-reported figures from the prior quarter and year-earlier quarter:

| Period | Consolidated sales | Operating profit | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q3 2026 | KRW 194–196 trillion; midpoint KRW 195 trillion | KRW 107.3–107.5 trillion; midpoint KRW 107.4 trillion | Preliminary guidance |
| Q2 2026 | KRW 171.5 trillion | KRW 89.49 trillion in the Q3 comparison; KRW 89.5 trillion rounded in the Q2 results release | Reported results |
| Q3 2025 | KRW 86.06 trillion | KRW 12.17 trillion | Reported results |
The comparison indicates a steep year-over-year increase, but the Q3 2026 numbers remain estimates until Samsung reports final results. The company’s Q2 results release also said its Device Solutions division recorded KRW 127.5 trillion in revenue and KRW 89.2 trillion in operating profit. Those division figures describe Q2, not Q3.
Why is Samsung expecting such a big profit?
The clearest explanation in Samsung’s own disclosures is a strong memory market tied to AI infrastructure investment. In its July 30 Q2 results release, Samsung said its Memory Business achieved record quarterly revenue and operating profit. It attributed that performance to responding proactively to AI demand despite limited capacity, alongside industry-wide price increases.
AI demand is concentrated in data-center memory
Samsung expected demand for server DRAM, enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs) and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) to accelerate in the second half of 2026. These products support data-center servers and AI workloads, where buyers are investing heavily in computing infrastructure.

Supply is not expanding as quickly as demand
The company said supply constraints were expected to continue despite efforts to increase production. When demand outstrips available supply, prices can rise—helping suppliers’ revenue and margins, though the effect varies by product and business segment.
Samsung also allowed for some moderation in mobile and PC demand. That distinction matters: the AI-related memory boom does not mean every type of memory or every device market is growing at the same pace.
How much of the expected profit comes from memory?
The preliminary Q3 guidance does not provide a business-unit breakdown. It therefore does not establish how much of the KRW 107.4 trillion midpoint comes from memory, or how much the memory business contributed to the year-over-year increase. Samsung’s Q2 memory results give context for the market, but they cannot be used as a Q3 segment result.

To assess the actual contribution, readers will need Samsung’s final Q3 results and segment disclosures. Until then, attributing the entire profit jump to memory would go beyond what the company has reported.
Are memory prices making phones and PCs more expensive?
Higher memory-component costs can put pressure on PC and smartphone makers, especially if they must compete for constrained supply or pay more for components. A Reuters report carried by Euronext said TrendForce forecast conventional DRAM contract prices would rise 10%–15% quarter over quarter in Q4 2026. That is a forecast for contract prices, not a confirmed retail-price increase and not a measure of what buyers pay for a finished device.
Manufacturers can respond to higher component costs in different ways: absorb them, adjust product specifications, change promotions, or raise prices. The cited company guidance and market reporting do not establish a uniform retail increase caused by Samsung’s Q3 outlook. A particular phone or PC’s price depends on its maker, configuration, market and timing.

Is the $80 billion figure final?
No. Samsung issued the guidance before completion of the external audit and explicitly warned that actual results could differ materially. It is best read as the company’s preliminary estimate, not a booked or audited outcome. As of October 11, 2026, the final Q3 results and segment breakdown were not available in the cited disclosures.
