Check the live Samsung checkout total before treating the tablet as a bargain.
Is the Galaxy Tab S9 FE trade-in deal live?
As of August 18, 2026, the available information does not confirm a current Samsung U.S. promotion that makes the Galaxy Tab S9 FE nearly free. Samsung’s U.S. trade-in program accepts certain eligible devices toward qualifying Samsung purchases, but eligible models and credit amounts can change. Its tablet and computer offers page likewise directs shoppers to check current offers on Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung app.
No current S9 FE-specific U.S. price, trade-in credit, stock status, or expiration date is established here. That means there is no reliable checkout calculation for a particular configuration—128GB or 256GB, Wi-Fi or cellular—or for the larger Galaxy Tab S9 FE+. Confirm that the exact S9 FE model is available directly from Samsung and that the trade-in credit appears in your order summary. A third-party listing or an old promotion is not proof of a live Samsung offer.
For context, a past promotion report described the 128GB S9 FE at $299 after a temporary $150 price cut. It said that discount could not be combined with Samsung trade-in. That historical price should not be added to a current trade-in quote or presented as an offer available now.

What “almost free” costs after trade-in
Use the actual Samsung checkout figures—not an “up to” headline—to calculate the cost:
Tablet price − instant trade-in credit − separate eligible promotional credit + sales tax + shipping or fees = checkout amount
Only subtract a separate promotional credit if the terms say it combines with trade-in. Taxes, shipping, and fees depend on the order and location, so a $0 pre-tax balance does not necessarily mean $0 out of pocket. A trade-in credit is also not cash: it is applied to a qualifying Samsung purchase.

There is no verified current Samsung price or model-specific trade-in value to use for sample low-, medium-, or high-value scenarios. To make the calculation, select the exact tablet and old device in Samsung’s checkout and record the resulting order total. The credit Samsung initially applies may be reversed or reduced if the device is late or fails the stated eligibility requirements.
Which old devices can qualify?
Samsung’s U.S. program lists eligible devices across categories that can include Galaxy and other smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, PCs, earbuds, and other supported products. The exact models and values are dynamic; a product family name alone is not enough to establish eligibility or value. Use the Samsung trade-in flow to select the precise model and answer its questions about storage, connectivity, carrier, and condition.
Samsung’s terms generally limit a trade-in to one device per new Samsung product unless checkout specifically allows more. The quoted credit is tied to the device you identify, so do not assume that a Wi-Fi model, cellular model, different storage size, or carrier version will receive the same amount.

Check the device condition before accepting a quote
Samsung’s trade-in terms set eligibility requirements and allow the submitted device to be checked after arrival. Before relying on a quote, confirm that the device meets the applicable requirements:
- It powers on, holds a charge, and does not shut down unexpectedly.
- The display works and has no disqualifying black spots or pixel damage.
- It has no prohibited cracks, breaks, serious dents, liquid damage, or swollen or damaged battery, unless a specific offer says cracked devices qualify.
- It is not reported lost or stolen, blacklisted, leased, or otherwise ineligible.
- Anti-theft locks are disabled and personal information is removed.
- The model and other details match the device selected at checkout.
Cracked-device acceptance is promotion-specific, not a standing guarantee. Only count a cracked device if the offer is presented and selected in the purchase flow and the device meets the other applicable requirements.
How to complete the trade-in without risking a chargeback
- Choose the tablet and trade-in device. At Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung app, select the exact S9 FE configuration, then identify the precise old device and answer the eligibility questions.
- Review the order summary. Check that the credit and any separate promotion are actually shown, and calculate the total including the tax and shipping shown for your order. Save a copy of the quote, terms, order summary, and mailing deadline.
- Back up and transfer your data. Save photos, messages, files, authenticator information, and anything else you need before resetting the old device.
- Remove accounts and locks. Sign out and disable the relevant anti-theft features, such as Samsung Reactivation Lock, Google Factory Reset Protection, or Apple Activation Lock on an iPhone or iPad.
- Remove cards and reset the device. Take out the SIM and microSD cards, then factory-reset the device and verify that it no longer shows your personal information.
- Document and ship it. Photograph its condition and serial number, follow Samsung’s packing instructions, and keep the shipping receipt and tracking details.
- Meet the deadline. Samsung’s terms generally require the trade-in to be shipped within 15 days after you receive the new product. Check the terms for your order and send it within the applicable window.
Samsung can charge back the applied credit if the device is not shipped on time or if inspection finds it does not satisfy the terms. Possible problems include a device that does not power on, a damaged screen or battery, liquid damage, a remaining account lock, a model or serial mismatch, or a lost/stolen or blocked status. Keep your shipping and condition records until Samsung confirms the trade-in has been accepted. Samsung’s trade-in FAQ also says the instant credit for smartphones and tablets applies to qualifying new Samsung devices, not certified pre-owned ones.

Is the Tab S9 FE worth buying in 2026?
The Galaxy Tab S9 FE launched in 2023, so it is an older midrange option rather than a current flagship. Its case is strongest for someone who wants a Samsung tablet with a stylus and useful durability features at a low final price. Samsung’s launch information lists a 10.9-inch display, up-to-90Hz refresh rate, and S Pen support. Specifications for a cited Wi-Fi model include a 2304×1440 display, 8MP rear camera, 12MP front camera, and S Pen support; Samsung product material also lists IP68 water and dust resistance and microSD expansion.
Those features may suit note-taking, reading, streaming, and everyday tablet use. They do not establish that the S9 FE is the right fit for demanding gaming, OLED contrast, or a premium keyboard experience. The available sources do not establish a current software-support period, so do not assume a particular number of future updates.
Samsung now markets newer FE-series hardware, including the Galaxy Tab S10 FE. Compare its current price and specifications with the S9 FE at checkout; the S10 FE is an alternative for buyers who value newer hardware and can justify a higher price, not proof that the older tablet’s trade-in offer is worthwhile.

Trade in the old device or sell it?
Samsung trade-in is convenient: the credit goes directly toward the purchase and you avoid finding a buyer. The trade-off is that the value is set by Samsung’s program, is not cash, and can be subject to inspection and chargeback.
Selling privately may return more money and gives you cash that is not tied to Samsung, but it takes time and involves negotiation, shipping, and buyer risk. Compare Samsung’s exact quoted credit with a realistic resale estimate before choosing. As a rough reference, Swappa reported an average S9 FE price around $253 and listings starting around $220 on July 30, 2026; these are marketplace figures, not Samsung trade-in values, and some configurations had limited listings. Check current listings for the exact model and condition before using that reference to make a decision.
When the deal is a good buy
Consider the S9 FE if Samsung confirms a current offer, the final after-tax checkout cost is below comparable used options, and the tablet’s age and features fit your needs. Be more cautious if the old device could sell for substantially more, if the S9 FE is unavailable from Samsung or only appears at an inflated third-party price, or if the savings depend on combining discounts whose terms do not permit stacking. The offer is only “almost free” if the live order summary supports that description and you are willing to meet the trade-in conditions.
