The preliminary estimate for July through September was nearly nine times the 12.17 trillion won reported for the same quarter a year earlier and topped the analyst estimate cited by Reuters. It is operating profit—not revenue or net income—and final results were still pending.
What Samsung estimated for the third quarter
Samsung’s preliminary estimate was 107.4 trillion won in operating profit for the July–September 2026 quarter. Reuters rendered that as about $80.17 billion; the dollar equivalent is approximate and depends on the exchange rate. Reuters’ October 8 report described the estimate as a record.

Operating profit is the amount remaining from business operations after operating costs, before items such as interest and taxes. It should not be read as sales revenue or as the company’s final net income.
How the estimate compares
| Measure | Figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Third-quarter 2026 operating profit | 107.4 trillion won | Samsung’s preliminary estimate, reported by Reuters |
| Third-quarter 2025 operating profit | 12.17 trillion won | Year-earlier figure reported by Reuters |
| Analyst estimate | 106.1 trillion won | LSEG SmartEstimate cited by Reuters |
| Second-quarter 2026 revenue | 171.5 trillion won | Prior-quarter revenue reported by the Associated Press |
| Second-quarter 2026 operating profit | 89.5 trillion won | Prior-quarter operating profit reported by the Associated Press |
On Reuters’ comparison, the preliminary third-quarter figure was nearly nine times the year-earlier operating profit and 1.3 trillion won above the LSEG SmartEstimate. The second-quarter figures are useful context, but they do not establish the final third-quarter result or the contribution of individual divisions.

Why profit surged—and what could temper the trend
Reuters attributed the increase to strong demand for chips used in artificial-intelligence systems and robust memory sales. Those conditions can lift sales and profits for a major chipmaker, but they do not guarantee that growth will continue at the same rate.
In its October 7 preview, Reuters noted that analysts had lowered forecasts from late August and that moderating memory-chip price increases could constrain margins. The subsequent preliminary estimate came in above the forecast cited in that preview, but one quarter’s estimate does not show whether AI-related demand or pricing will remain as strong. Reuters’ October 7 preview provides that pre-announcement context.

What the prior quarter says about Samsung’s business mix
The Associated Press reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of 171.5 trillion won and operating profit of 89.5 trillion won. It said nearly all of that quarter’s profit came from semiconductors, while higher component costs weighed on mobile devices, TVs and home appliances. That points to uneven results across Samsung’s businesses in the second quarter; it is not a breakdown of third-quarter performance. The AP’s July 30 report covers those results.
When the full results were due
Reuters said Samsung’s detailed results, including business-division figures, were expected on October 29, 2026. Until those results are available, 107.4 trillion won should be treated as a preliminary company estimate, not a final reported figure. The estimate alone does not establish how much each division contributed.
