A posthumous 1News report puts Sam Neill’s estimated net worth at NZ$31–34 million (US$18–20 million), attributing the figure to realestate.com.au. It is a media estimate, not an audited valuation or confirmed account of his estate.

How much was Sam Neill worth?

The reported estimate is NZ$31–34 million, which 1News rendered as US$18–20 million. The report describes the estimate as spanning Neill’s acting career, property and winery business, but does not break down the amount by asset or provide a calculation method. 1News

That distinction matters: an estimated net worth is not necessarily the amount available to heirs or the value ultimately recorded for an estate. The cited report does not provide financial statements, an asset-and-liability schedule or a probate valuation.

What contributed to the estimate?

Acting career

Neill had a long career as an actor. The report includes acting among the areas associated with its estimate, but does not disclose career earnings, taxes, expenses or any other calculation that would establish a separate figure.

Property and Two Paddocks

The report also refers to property and Two Paddocks, the Central Otago winery and farm Neill founded in 1993. It does not assign a separate value to the business or any property. Two Paddocks

Winery ownership alone does not establish personal wealth or business value. In a 2004 interview, Neill described the winery as an expensive operation and joked that he was still supporting it. That comment offers historical context about running the business; it is not evidence of its later financial performance or value. ABC Australia’s Enough Rope interview, 6 June 2004

How certain is the figure?

The NZ$31–34 million range should be treated as an attributed media estimate. The 1News report does not show audited financial records, explain how the estimate was calculated or identify a probate inventory. It therefore cannot be presented as a verified net-worth figure or definitive estate value.

Neill died in July 2026, making the figure a posthumous report rather than a live snapshot of his finances. The report’s US-dollar equivalent is presented alongside the New Zealand-dollar estimate; neither should be mistaken for a separate valuation.
