Salesforce Put Tableau’s NorthEdge Headquarters in Seattle Up for Sublease in 2023

Salesforce’s May 2023 plan to sublease Tableau’s NorthEdge headquarters was distinct from its decision to retain nearby Data 1, where Tableau later renewed its lease.

Salesforce announced in May 2023 that it would put NorthEdge, Tableau’s headquarters building in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, up for sublease. The announcement was about NorthEdge—not the nearby Data 1 building—and the available reporting does not establish whether NorthEdge is listed or available now.

What Salesforce announced about NorthEdge

GeekWire reported on May 26, 2023, that Salesforce planned to list NorthEdge for sublease. The building is in Fremont and served as Tableau’s headquarters. It was reported to be about 205,000 square feet, with room for roughly 1,200 people; those figures describe the building’s size and capacity, not Tableau’s headcount. GeekWire’s May 2023 report quoted a Salesforce spokesperson saying, “Tableau is a critical and thriving part of our business and we remain fully committed to our Seattle-based home and employees.”

NorthEdge and Data 1 were separate decisions

The NorthEdge announcement followed a different decision about Data 1, another Fremont office building. Salesforce had earlier said it would sublease Data 1, but reversed course and said it would retain the building. Tableau employees would have access to Data 1 as well as Salesforce’s Bellevue offices, according to the 2023 report.

Building What the reporting says
NorthEdge Tableau’s headquarters; Salesforce said in May 2023 that it would list the building for sublease. Reported at about 205,000 square feet, with capacity for roughly 1,200 people.
Data 1 Salesforce reversed its earlier plan to sublease it and retained it for employee access. In July 2026, GeekWire reported Tableau renewed a lease for roughly 114,000 square feet there.

What the 2026 Data 1 renewal changes—and what it does not

On July 14, 2026, GeekWire reported that Tableau renewed its lease for roughly 114,000 square feet at Data 1. The renewal is to take effect after the existing agreement expires in 2029. Salesforce VP of Global Real Estate Portfolio & Transactions Rob McCorkindale told GeekWire, “Data 1 has been a critical hub for our local employees and customers, and we are thrilled to continue our presence in Fremont.” GeekWire’s July 2026 report concerns Data 1; it does not establish NorthEdge’s current availability, sublease terms, asking rent, or broker.

Why the 2023 announcement drew attention

Salesforce acquired Tableau in 2019 in a deal GeekWire valued at $15.7 billion. Its May 2023 report also said Tableau had recorded $623 million in revenue, up 6% year over year, in the most recent quarter discussed in that article. That is a historical figure, not a current revenue update. The report noted that Salesforce announced a 10% workforce reduction in January 2023; that, too, is a dated announcement rather than a current workforce measure.
